Naturally Fluent has officially launched its Aquatics Department! 🐟

When a baby fish missing a fin came to our attention, it was decided he needed a quiet home with little competition.

He sounded like the perfect new training partner we didn’t know we needed.

Meet Finnigan. 🐟

Just a wee baby he’s now happily settling into his new home alongside his snail and shrimp friends.

And yes…there are already plans for a target stick.

While fish training may seem a little outside our wheelhouse, the science behind it really isn’t.

The same learning principles we use with dogs can be applied across species — whether you’re working in the aquarium, the barn, the backyard, or the living room.

Different species. Different environments. Same science.

Would you like to see what training a fish looks like and how much of it translates back to the dogs we work with every day? 🐶 🐠

Relaxing Responses on Sunday afternoons is SOLD OUT!

So we added another time!

If your outings aren’t always the fun kind of adventure, you’re not alone.

Maybe there’s a little more “THERE’S A DOG!”, emergency U-turns, leash tension, or strategizing your escape route than you’d like.

Relaxing Responses is about helping you understand what’s happening, giving your dog some breathing room, and finding better ways to navigate those moments together.

Because walks should be a fun journey, not a tactical operation. 💛

Ever seen a class and thought…
“Ooooh, I’d love to do that!”

Followed immediately by:
“…but I can’t do Tuesdays.”
Maybe Saturday would be perfect.
Maybe evenings are a no-go.

Maybe you’re looking at the classes I offer and thinking:
“Close… but what I really need is help with THIS.”

That’s where you come in!

I’m planning upcoming classes, and I want to know what you’re looking for.
What you’d like to work on, which days work best, and when you can actually make it happen.

I’ll use your answers to help shape what comes next.

Because training should fit into real life, not the other way around.

If you’ve ever thought “I wish there was a class for…” or “I’d totally do that if it were on…”

Your dog has goals.
Your calendar has opinions.
Let’s work with both.

Congratulations to the very first Waggology class in Grande Prairie!

Over the past few weeks, these dogs and their humans have learned, laughed, explored, and tackled all kinds of real-world adventures together.

We’ve turned old-school games into dog training. Practiced skills in places where the world doesn’t always cooperate. And, of course, we made time for the occasional very important pup cup.

Because learning to navigate the real world should be about more than sitting still in a training room.

It’s about building skills, confidence, and a partnership you can take anywhere.

Well done, Waggology graduates. You’re ready for the real world! 🎓

Want to join us and see what all the fun is about?

New Waggology and Spicy (Responsive Dog) classes will be released tomorrow!

Stay tuned…

The Inaugural Waggology class celebrated their final group session last night and we decided to take things out into the real world.

When we started, the big goal for everyone was simple:
Successful walks on leash.

Our classroom on the farm has plenty of distractions and new places to learn. With time, practice, and a little confidence their leash skills become a walk in the park.

So we took one. 😂

Playgrounds. Bikes. People. Other dogs.

And this crew? They walked like pros.

The real win was watching them choose calm in the middle of it all.
Waiting patiently.
Settling instead of getting overstimulated
And watching the world go by without needing to react to every bit of it.

Then came the reward.

Our class kids were sent on a scavenger hunt to find 24… which led us straight to ice cream.

Because there’s always room in the curriculum for pup cups.

Next week, this little team breaks apart as they take on their graduation challenge and become the very first Waggology Graduates of Grande Prairie. ❤️

Hi I’m Nina,
The trainer behind Naturally Fluent

I’ve been living the dog life for over a decade.

My roots are in rescue.
My work is built on science, experience, and a whole lot of hands-on learning.

That’s the official stuff.

The unofficial stuff?
I really believe training should be fun.

When everyone is engaged, learning has momentum.
Goals become more attainable.
Connections grow.
Sometimes the behaviour we’re trying to change is simply a dog asking for more to do.

Training should be clear.
And something you actually enjoy doing together.

I love that moment when everything starts to come together and you realize…
You’re just talking to your dog.

I’d love to hear more about who brought you here… and what kind of shenanigans they’ve been getting into.

One of Naturally Fluent’s biggest philosophies is that not all dogs fit into a box or timeline.

Some dogs are ready to work for an hour.
Some give us ten incredible minutes and then tell us they’re done.
That’s not failure; it’s information.

Focused Training Support is built around the dog in front of us. Whether we’re working in your home or out on a real-world field trip, we use our time intentionally and adapt the training to your dog’s specific needs.

No cookie-cutter sessions.
No pressure to “push through.”
Just thoughtful, one-on-one training that creates progress that actually lasts.

If you’ve ever felt like your dog doesn’t fit into a traditional training program, this might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

What’s the one thing you wish was easier with your dog right now?

Last week was all about learning how to move through the world.
This week, the lesson was polite greetings.

Turns out saying hello politely is a little more challenging when you’re a growing Great Dane puppy with paws that seem to arrive before the rest of you.

We practiced greeting people learning to take a breath before launching upwards.
We discovered that calm can be just as rewarding as zoomies.
It wasn’t perfect, but that’s exactly the point.
Every little pause, every thoughtful choice, and successful greeting helps build the dog they’re becoming.

Watching these big personalities grow from week to week has been such a fun adventure, and I can’t wait to see where their story goes next.

If you’d like to follow their journey, keep an eye on Riley's Pups. I have a feeling these gentle giants have a ton of adventures in their future.

One of my favourite things about working with reactive and sensitive dogs is helping them built confidence and communication with their humans. Once that foundation is in place, those same dogs can become absolute rockstars in the sports world.

The dogs with challenges often have the most to gain from a job. Challenging their brain enhances their skills and gives them a new way to move through the world.

That’s why I was so excited to finally meet Tammy from Purple Dog.

We have very similar views on training, but completely different things that light us up.

My happy place is helping reactive dogs find their calm. Hers is helping dogs discover what they’re capable of through sports.

That’s a killer combination.

That means I get to help dogs find their footing… and then send them off to learn how to fly. (And in frisbee class literally!)

Thank you for the warm welcome, Tammy. I’m so excited to learn more about the sports world with my girls!
