💜🦮 Happy National Service Dog Month! 🐕‍🦺💜

This September, we are taking some time to celebrate the most PAW-pular members of the Caribou family, our Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides facility dogs, Pluto and Sky!

Pluto and Sky provide comfort and safety to children and youth who visit our centre and/or are required to testify in court. Their calm and loving presence eases anxiety and helps make difficult moments a little bit easier.

A huge thank you to our incredible community partners who sponsor our facility support dogs, Pluto and Sky. Their generosity helps ensure these special team members can continue providing comfort, support, and companionship to children and youth when they need it most.

🖤 Found cat — Carriage Lane

A Good Samaritan brought a deceased cat to our clinic after finding her on the side of the road on Carriage Lane.

She is a female grey tabby with no collar and no microchip. We’re hoping to reunite her with her family and give them closure.

If you recognize this cat or believe she may belong to you, please contact our clinic directly. Please share this post to help us reach her family.

Thank you to the Good Samaritan who took the time to bring her to us. 🐾

We have some very sad news to share this morning.

Last week, we made the difficult, heartbreaking decision to let Larry peacefully cross the Rainbow Bridge.

He had been dealing with some major health conditions leading up to this decision, which were affecting his ability to urinate and evacuate his bowels on his own. Ultimately, we knew that letting him go peacefully was the kindest thing we could do for him.

One of the sad realities we all face is that, even with all of the information, medicine, and resources at our disposal, we still can’t prevent death. We can’t always fix everything, no matter how desperately we wish we could.

If love alone could have kept Larry healthy and happy, he would have outlived us all.

Our team is a little more fragile this week, and our clinic feels a little emptier without him. Larry was deeply loved, and we know he was loved by so many of you, too.

We’re going to miss him more than we can say. ❤️

🐾 Unexpected moments can happen when we least expect them — and our pets are no exception.

Did you know that 1 in 3 pets will need emergency veterinary care at least once each year? From accidents to unplanned illnesses, veterinary expenses can add up quickly when your furry family member needs care the most.

Pet insurance can help families navigate life’s unpredictable challenges with greater peace of mind. It can make difficult decisions a little easier, allowing pet owners to focus on their pet’s health and recovery rather than worrying about the cost of treatment.

One of the best times to consider pet insurance is when your furry friend is still a baby. Enrolling early can help ensure coverage is in place before unexpected health issues arise and may help avoid concerns related to pre-existing conditions later in life.

Your pet is family, and being prepared can make all the difference when the unexpected happens.

📞 Contact our clinic today to learn more about pet insurance options and how they can help protect your pet’s in the future.

🐾 Say hello to Oliver! 💙

This handsome little guy visited our clinic for his puppy booster vaccines, and he was such a brave boy from start to finish! 🩺✨

Can we all take a moment to appreciate those adorable wrinkles? We just can’t get enough of that sweet face! 😍

Oliver also went home with his dewormer, and we’re helping get him all caught up on his vaccines so he’ll be ready for his very first camping trip! 🏕️🐶 We love being part of these exciting puppy milestones and helping our patients stay happy and healthy for every adventure.

One thing we learned about Oliver! He absolutely loves his treats! 🦴 He couldn’t get enough of them, and they definitely helped make his visit a positive experience.

Wish Oliver luck on his upcoming camping adventure, and don’t forget to give this handsome boy some love in the comments! 💙🐾

🐾 August is National Immunization Month — Let’s Talk Vaccines! 💉

Vaccines are one of the best ways to protect your pet from serious, preventable diseases. They help keep both your furry family members and your family safe, as some diseases — such as rabies — can be transmitted to humans. In many areas, certain vaccines are required by law.

By Keeping your pet vaccinated, you’re helping reduce their risk of exposure to diseases that may be common in your community.

What’s the difference between Core and Non-Core vaccines?

🐶🐱 Core Vaccines are recommended for all dogs and cats. They protect against highly contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases, and some are legally required.

- Dogs: Rabies and DA2PP
- Cats: Rabies, FVRCP, and FeLV (depending on age and lifestyle)

🌿 Non-Core Vaccines are recommended based on your pet’s lifestyle, health, travel, and environment. These vaccines provide additional protection for pets that may be at higher risk of exposure.
Examples include:

- Lyme disease
- Bordetella (kennel cough)
- Leptospirosis

Your veterinarian can help determine which vaccines are right for your pet.

💡 Remember: Vaccines aren’t always a one-time event. Many require booster vaccinations to maintain strong immunity and keep your pet protected throughout their life. Staying up to date with your pet’s vaccine schedule is an important part of their ongoing healthcare.

🐾 Does your pet get nervous at the vet? You’re not alone! Veterinary visits can be stressful or scary for some pets. If your dog or cat experiences fear, anxiety, or stress during appointments, talk to our team about pre-visit pharmaceuticals. These medications can help make veterinary visits safer, less stressful, and more comfortable — for both you and your pet.

Have questions about your pet’s vaccines or wondering if they’re due for booster? We’re here to help!

📞 Call us at 780 - 532 - 2902 to book your pet’s vaccinations or to check their current vaccine status.
