🐾 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MEET DR. LAURA GRAY-MITCHELL! 🐾

Today’s spotlight is extra special because it’s also Dr. Laura’s BIRTHDAY! 🥳🎂

Dr. Laura has been practicing veterinary medicine for an impressive 23 years! 🩺❤️ If you’ve been a client of ours for a while, there’s a good chance she’s a familiar face!

🧩 Something you're surprisingly good at:
Knowing obscure facts that are absolutely no help in everyday life. 😂
You never know when that random knowledge might come in handy!

🐕 Breed you have an unreasonable soft spot for:
Any kind of Spaniel! ❤️

🩺 Most rewarding cases:
Those difficult medical cases where you finally get a definitive diagnosis AND a good outcome. There's nothing quite like solving a medical mystery!

🎤 Could give a 20-minute presentation with ZERO preparation on:
Allergic skin disease.
"I tend to give an allergic skin disease lecture every day!" 😂

👠 Something you'll happily spend money on:
Shoes!
A girl can never have too many, right?

🐨 Dream animal to snuggle if there were no consequences:
A koala bear!

❤️ Something you wish clients knew about your job:
Just how much work goes into providing the best possible care for our patients — and how many dedicated team members it takes to make that happen.

🥐 If you couldn't work in animal care:
I'd work in a bakery… but I'd have to learn how to bake first! 😂
We appreciate the ambition.

📏 Something that drives you a little crazy:
Things being lined up in order of size.
Apparently organization has its limits. 😂

🐍 Patient your coworkers know you're NOT volunteering for:
Snakes. Hard pass!

🦅 Coolest patient you've ever seen:
A bald eagle!

😳 Weirdest foreign body surgery find:
A nice beaded moccasin!
Someone clearly had expensive taste. 😂

👃 A smell you could identify instantly:
A decaying retained fetus.
Definitely one of those veterinary smells you never forget. 😬

🎉 Now we need your help!
Let's fill the comments with birthday wishes for Dr. Laura! 🥳❤️ And if she's cared for one of your pets over the years, we'd love to hear your favourite memory of her! 🐾

🐾 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Meet AMY! 🐾

Meet Amy, one of our Client Care Representatives! Amy was a familiar face in Country Club, but moved back to Bear Creek last fall to help us out there. After 30 years in veterinary medicine, Amy has gotten to know a LOT of pets and their people and if you’ve spent any time chatting with her, you probably also know she’s pretty good at making people laugh. ❤️

We mixed in a few important questions with some slightly less important ones…

🐨 What animal would you most want to snuggle if it couldn’t hurt you and wasn’t stressed by you?
A baby koala!

❤️ What’s something you wish our clients knew about your job?
How much we care about their pets. We get to know them and love them throughout their lives.

🐾 What’s the best pet name you’ve ever heard?
Mister Bigglesworth. 😂

🐴 What species do you have an unreasonable soft spot for?
Horses.

✨ What type of case do you find the most rewarding?
When a pet comes into the clinic completely flat, and then you get to watch them go running out the door with their family when they come to pick them up. ❤️

🦙 What’s the coolest patient you’ve ever seen?
A baby alpaca aka a cria!

😬 What type of patient do your coworkers know you are NOT up for if it comes through the door?
A snake. 🐍
No further explanation required.

😂 What’s something you’re surprisingly good at?
Making people laugh!

🩺 How long have you been in vet med?
30 years!

🤪 What’s one thing that drives you crazy, even though you KNOW it shouldn’t?
When my family doesn’t put something where I think it should go… even though it really makes absolutely no difference where it goes. 😂

👽 What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen in a foreign body case?
The coolest X-ray before an exploratory surgery was a beaded moccasin — you could actually see the design of the beads clearly on the X-ray!

🦷 Something you're surprisingly good at:
Veterinary dentistry!

Dachshunds!
Obviously.

😬 Something that drives you completely crazy:
People who don’t love dachshunds. 😂
Consider yourself warned.

🏆 Coolest patient you've ever seen:

Horses. ❤️

🦁 Dream animal to snuggle if there were no consequences:
A lynx!

There is definitely a story there.

Mimsy. ❤️

👩‍⚕️ If you couldn't work in animal care:
A medical doctor.
Apparently there was never going to be much escaping medicine!

👇 Now we need to settle something for Dr. Anna:
Dachshund people — tell us what makes these little dogs so irresistible! 😂❤️

The smell of a horse.
Horse people get it. ❤️

🩹 Most rewarding cases:
Wounds! There’s something pretty satisfying about seeing the healing process from start to finish.

Wound care.
We’re sensing a theme here. 😂

🐴 Animal you have an unreasonable soft spot for:
Mules!

🧮 Something you're surprisingly good at:
Numbers.

📊 And if you couldn't work with animals:
Accounting.
So apparently there really was a backup plan. 😂

😬 Something that drives you completely crazy:
People cracking their knuckles.
Consider this your warning. 😂

🦎 Patients your coworkers know you're NOT volunteering for:
Exotics.

🏆 Best pet name you've ever heard:
Allen.
There’s just something about a perfectly normal human name on an animal.

💸 Something you'll happily spend money on:
The boys. ❤️

👇 Now we want to know:
Is this the most beautiful mule you've ever seen? 🐴❤️

🐾 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MEET JAYME, RVT! 🐾

Jayme has been in veterinary medicine for an impressive 18 years — 15½ of those as an RVT! ❤️ Jayme has moved to our Bear Creek clinic, but you'll still find her here from time to time!

🩸 Something you're surprisingly good at:
Hitting those teeny tiny dehydrated veins.
If you know, you know — that’s a SKILL. 👏

🐊 Coolest patients you've ever seen:
A crocodile, monkey, blue-tongued skink, a 2 gram chameleon… and lots of other cool patients over the years!

Dentistry! 🦷

An ambitious choice. 😂

🐾 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Meet Dr. Aleeta Haas! 🐾

This week we’re getting to know one of our clinic owners, Dr. Aleeta Haas! After 31 years in veterinary medicine, Aleeta has accumulated a LOT of knowledge, some pretty incredible patient stories…and apparently some very strong feelings about doors. 😂

We asked her a few questions:

🦒 What animal would you most want to snuggle if it couldn’t hurt you and wasn’t stressed by you?
A giraffe.

🐶 What breed do you have an unreasonable soft spot for?
Great Danes, but it’s NOT unreasonable!

🩺 What type of case do you find the most rewarding?
Reconstructive surgery or emergency surgery — like putting back together a dog that bit a chainsaw. 😳

💬 What’s something you wish our clients knew about your job?
Communication is as important as medicine.

🐾 What’s the best pet name you’ve ever heard?
Mr. Twister.

🎨 If you weren’t allowed to work in animal care, what would you do?
Something involving art — miniatures, sculpture, pottery, painting or photography.

🎤 What could you give a 20-minute presentation about with absolutely no preparation?
Otitis, allergies, C-sections, vaccines… almost any common disease or surgery. After 31 years, there are a few things stored up there!

👃 What smell could you identify instantly with your eyes closed?
Tom cat urine.
Unfortunately, some veterinary skills you never asked to acquire. 😂

🚪 What’s one thing that drives you crazy, even though you know it drives you a little TOO crazy?
Propping open a door that has an automatic door closer. It’s meant to be CLOSED!
Also, opening the giant overhead door in the middle of winter when the man door is RIGHT BESIDE IT. 😑

🐗 What type of patient do your coworkers know you are NOT up for if it comes through the door?
A 600 lb boar. Please leave it in the trailer.

😎 What’s the coolest patient you’ve ever seen?
A moose!

😳 And finally… what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever found during foreign body surgery?
A training bra.
Yep. A training bra. 😂
