When its too smoky outside for long walks we play shred the cardboard!
1. Save up your cardboard recycling (3+ items)
2. Put a few treats in each box then do it back up
3. Place on the ground
4. Let the shredding and tearing begin!
5. Pick up all the tiny pieces of cardboard…lucky you 😜

I don’t see this as “bad” behaviour, it’s just behaviour. I can change the environment so it’s less likely to happen next time. 🐶

On walks I give Emma lots of choice. Choice of where she wants to go, when she wants to stop or sniff or look at something. I also build in cues that make our walks more safe and less frustrating for both of us.

Puppy parents often asked me how do I get my dog to stop jumping up on people?

My answer is…look at it from a different perspective. What would you rather your dog do when greeting people. As most puppies have learned to sit, this is a great behaviour to reinforce when saying hi to people. Make sure to have your treats are ready and guide your puppy into a sit before the person says hello to them, then give a few treats while they stay sitting.

We got to practice this at puppy socialization this week!

A successful recall workshop in the books! Three dog guardians joined me to help their dogs learn a beginner recall. As we worked towards calling our dogs away from distractions, I made sure participants had information they could take with them to help in their future recall training!
