Teddy is a beautiful Golden Retriever boy born March 4, 2026 with all the wonderful qualities people love about the breed. 💛 He’s happy, affectionate, intelligent, great with children and absolutely adores people. He’s also a typical energetic, sometimes rambunctious puppy who loves playing, exploring and chewing his toys. Teddy is very food motivated, picks up tricks quickly and has loads of potential with continued training. His leash manners still need work, especially when he gets excited!
Unfortunately, Teddy has already faced some significant orthopedic challenges in his young life. After developing a limp in his right front leg in July, he underwent multiple veterinary assessments, including consultations with an orthopedic surgeon. He has since been diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia and right elbow dysplasia with joint incongruity. His hip dysplasia is currently being managed conservatively, with recommendations to maintain a lean body weight throughout his life, provide fish oil supplementation and stick to low impact activities to protect his joints.
In September, Teddy underwent surgery on his right elbow to remove and clean up damaged cartilage and address the incongruity between the bones using a bone graft from his wrist. Follow up X-rays are scheduled for approximately November 6 to assess the surgical outcome and help determine his prognosis and long term needs. His future family must be prepared for ongoing veterinary care, possible activity restrictions, additional medical expenses and the uncertainty that comes with his diagnoses. Teddy is also not yet neutered, as his veterinarian has recommended allowing him to retain his testosterone for now and delaying neutering until approximately 12–18 months of age.
Teddy’s owners love him dearly and are only making the difficult decision to rehome him because of their own unexpected medical issues. They had every intention of giving him the best life possible and have already gone to great lengths to get him the care he needs. They also attempted to contact his breeder regarding his health concerns but received no response.
Please understand that the adoption process for Teddy will be extremely selective. He is not a typical puppy with typical needs and his adorable face cannot be the deciding factor. His future family must fully understand his medical conditions, have the financial means to manage his care and be committed to providing the training, patience and lifelong support he may require. Sadly his medical needs are not something he will necessarily outgrow.
Teddy deserves every chance at a happy, comfortable life. His owners had hoped to give him exactly that and the goal now is to find someone who can carry on that commitment. He may need a little more than the average dog but he has just as much love to give. ❤️
