Flex Update 🐾

Great news! Rob Clark is very pleased with Flex’s progress. She’s officially cleared for walks and, in two weeks, should be able to resume all normal activities!

Flex has been on restricted activity since she was only two months old. First due to her broken leg and then while recovering from surgery. We know that she also experienced abuse early in life and likely missed out on important socialization.

Jessica | Gatineau & Ottawa Dog Trainer has made great progress building up her confidence. Now that she can finally explore more of the world, the next few weeks will focus on leash skills, appropriate exposure, engagement and learning to make good choices around distractions.

Flex should be available for adoption in the coming weeks! 🏡

Bonne nouvelle! Rob Clark est très satisfait des progrès de Flex. Elle peut maintenant commencer les marches et, dans deux semaines, devrait pouvoir reprendre toutes ses activités!

Son activité est restreinte depuis l’âge de deux mois, d’abord en raison de sa patte fracturée, puis pour sa récupération après la chirurgie. On sait qu’elle a également été victime de maltraitance et a probablement manqué une partie importante de sa socialisation.

Jessica | Gatineau & Ottawa Dog Trainer a fait beaucoup de progrès avec sa confiance. Les prochaines semaines seront maintenant consacrées à la marche en laisse, aux expositions appropriées, à son engagement et à l’apprentissage de bons choix face aux distractions.

REDUCED-COST BOARD & TRAIN OPPORTUNITY

Professional dog training can be a significant investment, and I know that sometimes the owners who could really benefit from additional support simply aren’t in a position to take on the full cost of a Board & Train program.

This October, I’d like to make that a little more accessible for one dog & owner.

I’m opening ONE reduced-cost Board & Train spot starting in October, with the following savings:

On-Leash Board & Train — $500 OFF
Build stronger foundations, leash manners, obedience, impulse control and everyday structure.

Off-Leash Board & Train — $500 OFF
Build reliable obedience and greater freedom through advanced off-leash training.

Reactivity Rehab — $1,000 OFF
An intensive program for dogs struggling with reactivity, over-arousal, fear, frustration, or emotional responses.

My goal is simply to make a Board & Train program more financially accessible to an owner and dog who could genuinely benefit from the support.

IMPORTANT: A deposit is required to secure the spot and will be applied toward the total program cost. The remaining balance must be paid in full before the Board & Train begins.

Meet Flex!

Flex is an almost 5-month-old German Shepherd mix currently in foster with me through Belgian Shepherds Rescue of Canada. She came into rescue after being abused, neglected and left with a broken leg, so while we wait for her orthopedic surgery, our focus is on the things we can work on.

Here’s what she’s learned since Tuesday:

✔️ Walking into her crate willingly
✔️ Eating every meal in her crate
✔️ Relaxing quietly in her crate with no barking
✔️ Pottying on cue
✔️ No potty accidents, aside from some submissive peeing when coming out of the crate, which we’re actively working through and already seeing significant improvement with

People often think training starts with commands.

I think it starts with confidence, routine, and trust.

I’m excited to be a part of Flex’s journey and can’t wait to share her progress over the coming weeks.

Just a quick reminder that I’m currently on vacation and will be away until July 13.

Meet Waffles! 🧇

Waffles, a 3-month-old Corgi, is spending the next 2 weeks with me for her Puppy Fundamentals Board & Train while her family is away.

The goal with puppies this age is to create strong foundations, confidence, and engagement. All through fair, clear, and age-appropriate training.

I’m excited to help this little girl get the best start possible!

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is choosing a dog based on looks, trends, or a few cute videos online.

Your dog might fit your aesthetic, but can you realistically meet their needs every single day? Energy levels, genetics, drive, temperament, grooming, training, and lifestyle all matter more than people realize.

What you’re living with is genetics. Every single day. Some dogs are bred to herd, hunt, retrieve, guard, protect, pull, work, or go all day long and no amount of love changes what they were purposely bred for.

Choosing the right breed means being honest with yourself. Not the version of yourself you want to be, but the one you are right now.

Do the research. Ask the hard questions. Choose the dog you can give a good life to. Not just the one you think looks cool.

One of the most important things we can teach a dog is the ability to do nothing without stress or confusion. Relaxation is not a default state. It’s a trained skill that creates structure and emotional clarity.

When a dog can switch off on cue, they begin to regulate themselves instead of constantly reacting to their environment. That ability impacts everything from focus in training to behaviour in busy, distracting spaces.

A dog that can relax is more grounded, more stable, and easier to live with.

Nibbler went home yesterday after completing his Board & Train program 🥹

Over the past two weeks, we focused on creating more structure, better communication, and calmer decision-making in his daily life. He made a lot of progress with his overall manners, focus, and ability to settle.

I’m really proud of how far he came during his stay, and I’m excited to continue supporting his owners through follow-up in-home sessions to help make the transition home as smooth and successful as possible.
