🐾 Give Your Puppy or Kitten the Best Start in Life! 🐾

Preventative care is one of the most important investments you can make in your new furry family member's health.

These cuties were in for their wellness visits which helps us to monitor their growth and development, catch potential health concerns early, and answer any questions you may have as your pet grows.

💉 Vaccinations protect puppies and kittens from serious, potentially life-threatening diseases. Staying on schedule ensures they build strong immunity during their most vulnerable months.

🦟 Routine flea, tick, and parasite prevention is essential year-round. These pests can transmit diseases and cause discomfort.

🪱 Regular deworming helps eliminate common intestinal parasites that are often present in young pets, even when they appear healthy.

Early preventative care lays the foundation for a lifetime of health, happiness, and tail wags. Contact us today to schedule your puppy or kitten's wellness visit! 🐶🐱❤️

Noticing little small red dots or rings, sometimes resembling a bullseye? It’s likely black fly bites, very common in spring and early summer as Kevin can confirm!

They are typically harmless and usually fade on their own within 48–72 hours. While they may look alarming at first, they are generally nothing to be concerned about.

That said, the bites can be painful or irritating, and some dogs may lick or scratch at them, which can lead to secondary infections.

To help prevent bites, try to avoid outdoor walks or yard time during peak black fly activity:
- Early morning
- Late afternoon & dusk

Black flies are most active around wooded areas and water, especially on calm, humid days.

If your pet develops significant swelling, seems very uncomfortable, or the area worsens instead of improving, it’s always a good idea to check in with your veterinarian.

☀️🐾 Although Phoebe is all snuggled up in this photo, the warm weather is just around the corner which can bring hidden dangers for our furry friends, including heatstroke, burned paw pads, dehydration, and insect bites.

Here are a few simple ways to keep pets safe this summer:
💧 Always provide fresh water and shade
🌡️ Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day
🐕 Test pavement with your hand before walks — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them
🚗 Never leave pets in parked vehicles, even for a minute
🦟 Keep up with flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
🏖️ Supervise pets around pools, lakes, and beaches

Watch for warning signs like excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or lethargy. If your pet seems overheated, contact your veterinarian right away.

Let’s keep tails wagging safely all summer long!

Veterinary Assistant Week is the perfect time to recognize the incredible people who help keep our hospital running every single day. 🐾

Our veterinary assistants do it all, from maintaining a clean and organized hospital, tackling the never-ending laundry, preparing patients and surgical suites, sterilizing instruments, comforting and caring for patients, answering phones, supporting our doctors/technicians, and helping ensure every pet receives compassionate care.

Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but their impact is seen in every part of our hospital. We are so grateful for their dedication, teamwork, kindness, and the countless ways they support our patients, clients, and staff each day.

Thank you to our amazing veterinary assistants for everything you do, we truly couldn’t do it without you! 🐶🐱

Not every day do we get to meet TWO Xoloitzcuintlis in one visit! 🐶

Also known as the Mexican Hairless Dog or “Xolo,” this remarkable breed is considered one of the oldest dog breeds in the world, with a history dating back more than 3,000 years.

Xoloitzcuintlis are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and calm temperament. While many are hairless, some coated varieties also exist. Their lack of fur means they require a little extra skin care, including protection from sun exposure, cold weather, and dry skin.

We always enjoy meeting unique breeds and helping owners keep their companions healthy and comfortable. Have you ever seen a Xoloitzcuintli before?

Thank you to Jago, Mac, and their handlers for your service and dedication to keeping Fredericton safe.

We’re incredibly grateful to the amazing sponsors who made yesterday’s spay/neuter clinic in support of the Fredericton SPCA possible 🐾

The Fredericton SPCA works tirelessly every day to care for vulnerable animals in our community by providing shelter, medical care, and a second chance at a better life. It was an honour to support their mission through this clinic.

A special thank you to Zoetis and Boehringer Ingelheim for your generous support. Because of partners like you, our team was able to donate their time and successfully spay/neuter and vaccinate 48 cats in just one day.

This effort will have a lasting impact by helping reduce overpopulation and easing the burden on shelters like the Fredericton SPCA, so they can continue the incredible work they do.

To our sponsors and our dedicated team: thank you for helping make a real difference. Together, we’re creating a better future for animals in need ❤️
