Meet Barista!

Barista is more on the shy side. When she first came in, she was very reserved. She has made progress and is more comfortable now and does like affection, just on her own terms. If you are looking for a quiet companion who may keep to herself at times, give us a call to schedule an appointment!

She is untested with cats and dogs at the moment.

She is currently in temporary foster care. We can still set up a meeting! You can reach us at (506) 459-1555 or email us at [email protected]

🐾 June is National Microchipping Month! 🩺

Scanning for a microchip is the first step for shelter staff during intakes. A simple scan can give staff the name and phone number of the animal’s owner, making reunion possible. However, the Fredericton SPCA alone intakes many un-chipped animals making the reuniting process more challenging. 🤔

Some myths surrounding microchips are that they are too expensive or that they are a “tracking device.” Microchips are one of the more affordable vet procedures. A microchip from a vet will cost you between $30-50 dollars and it lasts a lifetime. Many animal shelters also do microchip clinics throughout the year where pets can receive the chip at an even lower cost. 🐶

The procedure lasts a few seconds and your pet only feels a pinch as the grain of rice sized chip is inserted. The microchip is not a GPS and it does not track your animal.
Rather, it has a unique number that when scanned gives shelter staff access to your name, phone number, and email for contact purposes. 📍

Microchips are also a better alternative to collars and tags. Once a pet is outside it is easier for collars and tags to break or slip off. Microchips are inserted underneath the skin between the pet’s shoulder blades, making it a safer choice. 😺

Occasionally microchips do come out of the skin, but this is not common. The chip should be updated anytime you change addresses or change your phone number. You can do this by calling the microchip company your pet’s chip came from. 📱

We use 24 Hour Pet Watch, who can be reached by calling 1-866-375-7387. 🐈

Did you know? All animals at the Fredericton SPCA are microchipped before being adopted. Our S.N.I.P program includes a microchip!
