Since hotel access wasn’t an option this morning, we switched gears and focused on a valuable skill every dog should learn: how to settle. Teaching a dog to settle helps them learn to relax and remain calm in different environments, even when there are distractions around them. It promotes better impulse control, reduces overexcitement and unwanted behaviors, and helps dogs cope more confidently with everyday situations. A solid settle is an important life skill that can make outings, training sessions, and daily life more enjoyable and manageable for both dogs and their owners.

We followed that up with some obedience work, giving the dogs an opportunity to practice their skills and focus around distractions. To round out the morning, we enjoyed a nice walk along the waterfront and through downtown, taking in the sights while working on good leash manners and engagement. 🐾

Taking your dog places isn’t always easy. It takes patience, consistency, and plenty of practice to help them learn how to behave in new environments. There may be challenges along the way, but the hard work pays off in the end 😀

Teaching dogs to go through doors properly and navigate stairs safely , isn’t just about manners - it’s about safety. Waiting calmly at doors helps prevent bolting, pulling, and accidents, while learning to use stairs at a controlled pace reduces the risk of slips and injuries for both dogs and handlers.

These simple skills build confidence, improve impulse control, and make every walk safer and more enjoyable 🐕

Sometimes the bravest thing a dog can do is take one small step forward.

Celebrate the little victories - they’re what builds confidence 😊

Another great training adventure today at the Hilton Garden Inn!

Our dogs had the opportunity to practice important real-world skills, including polite doorway manners, safe stair travel, riding the elevator, and relaxing in the lobby while taking in the activity around them. These short outings help dogs learn to navigate public spaces with confidence while remaining calm, focused and well-mannered 😀
