🐾 Meet Fern—also known as Fernie Fern! 🐾

Fernie had never lived in a home when she came to us with babies who were only two days old. She had survived a hard life—scrounging for food, painfully thin and missing half of her tail.

She took longer than the others to warm up to us, and she still doesn’t trust everyone she meets. But earning Fernie’s trust is one of the most heart-melting gifts in the world. Beneath those beautiful lion eyes is the gentlest, most loyal soul. 🤎

Now, she follows me everywhere I go. She loves her walks and will even try to sneak out the door when someone is leaving—just in case there’s a car ride or another opportunity to be with her people!

Fernie’s love may take time to earn, but once you have it, you have it completely. She is truly the very best girl. 🥹🐾

👃 Let them sniff!

Not every walk needs to be measured by speed, steps or distance. For dogs, stopping to investigate all those interesting smells is an important part of exploring their world—and it provides valuable mental enrichment too.

Sometimes the best walk is a slow one with plenty of time to wander, sniff and simply be a dog. 🐾

🐾 Meet Savvy! 🐾

Savvy is a real ham and a firmly committed 100-pound lap dog. His favourite place to sleep is as close to me as physically possible—and despite his size, he has an unbelievable talent for squeezing himself into the tiniest spaces. 😂

Our sweet boy is a senior now and has some heart troubles, so we treasure every snuggle and every moment with him. He still enjoys a little playtime with his sisters and remains convinced that one day he’ll finally catch Walter, our backyard squirrel. 🐿️

Savvy is gentle, funny, endlessly loving and truly the goodest boy. 🤍

Meet a few members of our own wonderfully mixed family: our guinea pigs and the one and only Phil B. Johnson, our eight-year-old bearded dragon. 🐹🦎
