97 puppies. One community. One incredible cause. ❤️

It was truly an honour to work alongside Fort McMurray’s amazing groomers, coming together for one important purpose. Helping these little dolls look and feel as amazing as they truly are.

Seeing so many animal lovers come together and work tirelessly for these little angels was incredibly heartwarming. Every bath, brush, trim, and helping hand made a difference.

PUPDATE on the 97 pups

Once again we need to say a tremendous thank you to our community. YMM your generosity, kindness and patience has been truly incredible.

We need to start by saying a huge thank you to Dr.Fielding, her staff, and our meds team. When these pups needed you, you sprang into action and ensured each one received the utmost care. Working throughout the night providing 97 intakes and ensuring the health and well-being of each and every pup showed the true power of teamwork and was an incredible feat to witness. We are so grateful for your dedication and support.

After receiving their intakes our absolutely amazing groomers got to work. It has been incredible to see not only the beautiful and efficient work done but also the kindness and compassion shown during each groom. A huge thank you to Tiffany for spearheading our grooming needs and organizing all of the absolutely incredible groomers who had come in over the past few days. Your work has truly given these pups a fresh start to their second chance.

Our unbelievably skilled volunteers got to work constructing kennels in our emergency space. As we run programming that often requires emergent unscheduled kennel space we do maintain an open area of space to be used in emergency situations. Although we've never had an intake of this level our volunteers came together and worked tirelessly to construct new kennels and housing ensuring all of our pups have safe and secure space to reside. The transformation of space has been truly incredible to see, your hard work has provided safety and security to pups who may have never known that feeling.

There is still an incredible amount of work to do before these pups will be available. But as of right now we need to appreciate that our community has truly made the impossible, possible and we cannot thank you all enough for that!

We would like to thank absolutely everyone for the incredible out pouring of support these 97 incredible pups have received over the last 24 hours.

Information about the 97 dogs will be posted as it becomes available. Please do not call inquiring about the pups. We truly appreciate the interest from potential adopters but our main focus at this time must be caring for these pups and the other pets currently in our care. As much as we wish we did, we do not have the man power to return every call inquiring about our new intakes. We are terribly sorry that we can't answer each and every one of you because we appreciate your interest.

Please do no come to the shelter looking to meeting the 97 new pups. Please remember these pups are new to our shelter, they have had a very large change happen over night and will need time to adjust. We also need time to complete behavoural and medical assesments as well as grooming. Until that time they will be unavailable for public veiwing.

Please be patient with us. Our population doubled over night but our staff did not. We may be a little slower than usual responding. We will release information as they become available.

97 ANIMALS HAVE ARRIVED AT THE SHELTER
Yes, you read that correctly, a group of 97 animals were taken into the Fort McMurray SPCA this week. This is the largest number of animals we have ever had arrive at the shelter at one time, and our team is working around the clock to get everyone settled, assessed and cared for.
Right now, we are still:
• Identifying medical concerns
• Assessing behaviour and individual needs
• Getting everyone organized and settled
• Creating a plan for the care and placement of these animals
We know our community is going to have questions, and we know many of you are going to want to help. We are incredibly grateful. But right now, what we need most is a little time to organize and plan. This was unexpected and doubled our animals over nights.

These animals will not be available for viewing or adoption at this time. We understand that everyone is curious and wants to see the new arrivals, but allowing people to come in and visit right now would add additional stress and make it much more difficult for our team to focus on getting 97 animals safely settled and cared for. Our immediate priority is to continue providing the high level of care our animals receive every day, while also ensuring these new arrivals receive the same care, attention and compassion.

Important Update for Our Wonderful Clients! 🤎
To help us better accommodate your schedules, our weekly hours have officially changed.
We are now open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Saturday!
Our convenient walk-in dog nail cutting services continue to be offered Tuesday–Saturday, 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
