This weekend has been humbling and rewarding for me as a groomer but more so a human.
Today my cell rang. It was Lexy. “Tracy, what are you doing right now”?
Within 30 mins I had my grooming supplies and was headed to the spca.
It was my turn to meet the 98.
I didn’t know what to expect. I cried all the way there and gathered my composure outside in the parking lot.
When I entered the building. I couldn’t believe the amount of support our community has given to those pups. Everyone is pulling together in our own way. Doing what we can. Kodos to the spca staff and volunteers. You are incredible.
To my fellow groomers. We have shown our commitment to our field and what it truly represents. I have never been more proud to have worked along side you all. Especially Meghan and Lexy.
But it’s far from over, those puppies need our help. Please, if possible a small donation or bag of food, fill out a foster form or even just share this post. I’ve seen what the community of Fort McMurray can do together and know these pups will have wonderful futures!
PUPDATE on the 97 pups
Once again we need to say a tremendous thank you to our community. YMM your generosity, kindness and patience has been truly incredible.
We need to start by saying a huge thank you to Dr.Fielding, her staff, and our meds team. When these pups needed you, you sprang into action and ensured each one received the utmost care. Working throughout the night providing 97 intakes and ensuring the health and well-being of each and every pup showed the true power of teamwork and was an incredible feat to witness. We are so grateful for your dedication and support.
After receiving their intakes our absolutely amazing groomers got to work. It has been incredible to see not only the beautiful and efficient work done but also the kindness and compassion shown during each groom. A huge thank you to Tiffany for spearheading our grooming needs and organizing all of the absolutely incredible groomers who had come in over the past few days. Your work has truly given these pups a fresh start to their second chance.
Our unbelievably skilled volunteers got to work constructing kennels in our emergency space. As we run programming that often requires emergent unscheduled kennel space we do maintain an open area of space to be used in emergency situations. Although we've never had an intake of this level our volunteers came together and worked tirelessly to construct new kennels and housing ensuring all of our pups have safe and secure space to reside. The transformation of space has been truly incredible to see, your hard work has provided safety and security to pups who may have never known that feeling.
There is still an incredible amount of work to do before these pups will be available. But as of right now we need to appreciate that our community has truly made the impossible, possible and we cannot thank you all enough for that!
We will continue to provide pupdates as the situation evolves. We are truly grateful for your support. Thank you YMM! ♥️🐾
