🐾 Meet the Team Tuesday: Mackenzie! 🐾

Mackenzie has been part of the Fort Macleod Veterinary Clinic team since August 2024 and graduated from Lakeland College’s Veterinary Technician program in 2025. She completed the blended program while working with us throughout her studies, gaining plenty of valuable hands-on experience along the way!

Growing up surrounded by cats, dogs, a budgie, and fish, Mackenzie has always loved animals. Since entering the veterinary field, that love has expanded to include large animals—with goats and sheep holding an especially special place in her heart! 🐐🐑

Outside the clinic, Mackenzie enjoys making sourdough and spending time with her golden retriever, Kipper. 🍞🐶

We’re so happy to have Mackenzie as part of our team!

🐴 Case of the Week: Duo’s Sticky Situation!

Sometimes the smallest things can cause the biggest problems.
Meet Duo, who was in a predicament. Dr. Emmalyn had to go on farm to see her after suddenly becoming very uncomfortable. She was slobbering excessively, trying to eat but unable to, and showing obvious signs of pain.
After a thorough oral examination, the culprit was found — a stick lodged in her mouth. Thankfully, Dr. Emmalyn was able to safely remove it, and Duo got immediate relief. A great reminder that horses can get surprisingly creative when it comes to finding trouble!

What to watch for in your horse:
➡️Excessive drooling or slobbering
➡️Difficulty chewing or swallowing
➡️Dropping feed (quidding)
➡️Reluctance to eat or drink
➡️Signs of mouth pain or discomfort

These signs should never be ignored.
A friendly reminder from Fort Macleod Veterinary Clinic 💙
Regular dental examinations are an important part of your horse’s overall health. Dental disease, sharp enamel points, foreign objects, and mouth injuries can all make eating painful and lead to bigger problems if left untreated.
If something seems off with your horse — call us sooner rather than later. Early intervention can make all the difference.
Way to go, Dr. Emmalyn, for saving the day for Duo! 🩺🐎

🐴 MEET THE TEAM WEDNESDAY! 🐮

Meet Vanessa! 👋

Vanessa graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at Lakeland College in 2026 and has been part of the Fort Macleod Vet Clinic team ever since!

Growing up on a family ranch, Vanessa is definitely no stranger to large animals — and that’s exactly where her passion is! 🐮🐴 She loves getting outside the clinic and helping with our equine and livestock patients.

When she’s not at work, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her family and friends and, of course, riding her horses. 🐎

We’re so happy to have Vanessa on our team! 💙 Make sure to say hi when you see her around the clinic or out on the road!

🔎 A LOOK INSIDE — WITHOUT MAJOR SURGERY! 🐶🐱

Did you know that Fort Macleod Veterinary Clinic has small animal endoscopy capabilities?

An endoscope is a small, flexible camera that allows our veterinarians to look inside certain areas of your pet’s body — and in some cases, diagnose or even treat a problem without the need for invasive surgery.

🐾 Endoscopy can be useful for:
• Retrieving certain swallowed foreign objects from the stomach or esophagus
• Investigating chronic vomiting, regurgitation or difficulty swallowing
• Looking for inflammation, ulcers, masses or other abnormalities
• Examining the esophagus and stomach
• Collecting targeted biopsies or samples
• Evaluating certain respiratory or airway concerns
• Helping us get answers when bloodwork and imaging don’t tell the whole story

One of the biggest advantages? When appropriate, endoscopy can mean smaller or no surgical incisions, less discomfort and a faster recovery compared with traditional exploratory surgery.

Of course, endoscopy isn’t the right tool for every case — but having this technology available right here at Fort Macleod Veterinary Clinic gives our veterinarians another valuable option when diagnosing and treating our patients.

We’re proud to continue investing in equipment and skills that allow us to provide more advanced care close to home. 💙

📸 Pictured is Dr. Gabe putting our endoscope to work during an emergency! This curious pup had swallowed something it definitely shouldn’t have, and endoscopy allowed Dr. Gabe to go in with a camera and attempt retrieval — avoiding a much more invasive surgery.

Just another example of how having advanced equipment available when an emergency walks through the door can make a big difference for our patients. 🐾💙

🐾 Meet Ella! 🐾

We didn’t get a chance to properly introduce Ella when she first joined us as a summer student, so we thought now was the perfect time!

Ella is a pre-veterinary student at the University of Lethbridge and will (hopefully) be going to vet school in 2027. Ella hopes to continue with the Fort Macleod Vet Clinic throughout and after school. In her free time, Ella can be found doing yoga, with her horses, or on an adventure with her friends. 🐴💕

Since joining us as a summer student, Ella has transitioned into a receptionist role and has become such a wonderful part of our clinic team. We are so thankful for all her hard work, positivity, and dedication over the past summer!

As Ella heads back to her studies, we want to wish her the very best of luck. 🎓 We’re so excited to watch her continue working toward her dream of becoming a veterinarian and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!

Good luck, Ella — and thank you for everything you’ve done for our team! We’ll miss you while you’re away! 🐾❤️

💙 Goodbye & Good Luck, Dr. Alli! 🐄

It’s never easy saying goodbye to someone who has become such a special part of our clinic family.

We were incredibly lucky to have Dr. Alli spend her first year in practice with us at Fort Macleod Veterinary Clinic. From day one, she brought an incredible amount of cattle knowledge, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to take on just about any challenge that came her way.

Dr. Alli has truly been a breath of fresh air in the clinic. She is hardworking, kind, always willing to lend a hand, and almost always has a smile on her face — especially when there’s a cow involved! 🐮❤️ Whether it was a routine herd visit or a challenging cattle case, you could always count on her enthusiasm.

While we are sad to see her go, we couldn’t be more excited for her as she takes the next step in her career and moves on to a cattle-focused practice. We know she is exactly where she is meant to be, and there are going to be some very lucky cows — and producers — in her future!

We are so proud to have been a part of Dr. Alli’s first year as a veterinarian and incredibly grateful for everything she brought to our team. Just as importantly, we are thankful for everything we had the opportunity to learn from her along the way.

Dr. Alli, thank you for the laughs, the hard work, the knowledge, the friendship, and all the memories. We are going to miss your smiling face around the clinic more than you know.

Good luck on your next adventure, Dr. Alli. We can’t wait to see where your career takes you! 💙🐄

Once part of the Fort Macleod Vet Clinic family, always part of the family. 🤍
