Update: Homeless no more! Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes and interest in our puppy; he's now preparing to go to his forever home. His new family says they are "super excited" and can't wait to bring him home.
This poor little guy is suddenly homeless, even though he did nothing wrong.
We take reservations for our puppies. Reservations help us make breeding decisions. We tell our clients a reservation is a commitment to a puppy. If they aren't ready to commit, then they shouldn't reserve a puppy. We tell them when a puppy will be ready to go home. If that timing doesn't work for them, then they shouldn't reserve a puppy.
And yet, more and more often these days, people feel free to just jump on and off our waiting list with no consequences. Look at this little boy. He is a consequence. He now risks being left behind when all his siblings go home to their loving families. As of today, he has no family eagerly awaiting his arrival. Don't get me wrong, I understand life happens. Job loss, sudden illness, all sorts of unforeseen events can make it impossible to bring home a puppy.
This isn't the case here. Imagine if I did that -- If I told someone on my reservation list 10 days before go-home day that I'd decided on a whim to sell the puppy to someone else.... Oh well, sorry, I'm sure you'll find another puppy, no big deal.
In the almost 2 months this puppy was reserved, I told several other people that we had no boys available -- people who could have provided him with a wonderful home. Now I have to start all over again and with only 10 days before his brothers and sisters are ready to go home, the clock is ticking.
