** UPDATE: Adopted -- that was quick! But we'll have a couple of other adults retiring soon... ** Little Mina has raised her last litter of puppies and is now looking for a comfortable sofa to call her own. Her retirement package wish list includes a chauffeur to take her places, a social director to help her make new friends and fitness coach for fun walks in the neighbourhood. Proficiency in belly rubs is a must for this affectionate, friendly girl. If you have a lap in need of a snuggly Bichon, Mina is your girl! Message us for more info. PS one of Mina's puppies is also still available and she's just like her mom -- friendly, confident and affectionate. Mina is 5 years old and is a smaller Bichon at about 4.5 kg.

I'm devastated to learn of the sudden passing of our beloved Gem (Fairhaven Summer Gemstone). Despite swift treatment and live-saving efforts from the vet, she succumbed to anaphylactic shock due to a suspected bee sting. She had the sweetest nature and was the most loving dog imaginable. We debated keeping her when it was time for her to retire but thought she'd be happiest as a spoiled only dog. Gem got to enjoy only 84 days of retirement during which she completely stole the hearts of her new family, who miss her dearly. Gem was undoubtedly met at the Rainbow Bridge by our 2 other sweet girls who passed this year: Sophie and Gem's buddy Skye. Gem would have been 6 years old on Oct. 9.

Mina enjoyed her spa day Wednesday after successfully raising and weaning her final litter of puppies (born Aug. 9).

Sound desensitization: Exposing puppies to a variety of sounds helps raise a non-reactive dog who doesn't bark with fear or aggression at new things they encounter (and they do great in apartments!). Our newest pups are so smart -- they seem to know the sounds are coming from the speaker!

Congratulations to Marion and Mark Szczucinski on their adoption of newly retired Fairhaven Sparkling Bijou. If the names sound familiar, it’s because we’ve enjoyed for years Marion’s pictures & updates on Fairhaven Sparkling Sophie — one of our 4 foundation girls from whom all Fairhaven Bichons are descended. Sophie sadly passed away earlier this year at 15. It’s fitting that granddaughter Bijou now takes over the job of walking her humans and receiving belly rubs.
