Photos are a snapshot of a moment. I know this won't last, but I'm just really grateful for this moment.

Everyone is healthy, happy, and have truly welcomed Rye into the pack ❤️❤️

Wh***ey is still coming out on jogs, hikes, and doesn't show stiffness after a whole day out.

Bourbon is her overthinking sensitive self, but is finally enjoying Rye and sprinting around with a mini-me.

Rye isn't really a puppy anymore- she runs like an adult (although she sometimes misjudges and lands on her face).

I'm tired, sometimes overwhelmed, but trying hard to stay present and enjoy all the little things. It's really not easy as a single mom, but it's also the best.

My 3rd pup and I feel like I've tried it all!

If it's not crazy rainy or cold, I'd hold back on getting new jackets and boots (we bought second hand) and even though I couldn't resist new toys, a cardboard box will work just as well.

With a growing dirty, chewy puppy you don't want to invest in much but if you're going to be in the thick woods or mountain trails, or even just a local walk, these might be worth getting!

Have I missed anything? Let me know!

Swipe to see our 5 must haves! 👉

A harness is a must-have especially with a mostly off-leash puppy. I highly suggest a lightweight harness made for lifting with lots of attachment points.

I find myself lifting Rye for safety from strange dogs, in order to carry her through a tricky section, and to assist her negotiate something she might fall off.

The Ruffwear flagline has been my favorite for years and is super adjustable for a growing puppy, lightweight enough not to bother a small dog, and good for our on leash hikes.

I've tried hanging tags but have given up. A rivet tag is now a non-negotiable for me in case a pup gets loose and SLOPPY CHOPS CO.® not only makes beautiful custom collars, she also has mini rivet tags for Lil pups.

You can customize everything and I asked her to punch me extra holes for a growing neck. We've already gone through 5 holes! I know there are a zillion cheap collars on the market but seeing as the collar will be in every single puppy photo, I really think investing in the perfect one is important.

I was skeptical how much use I would get out of a dog backpack but it's a gamechanger! With the Ruffwear backpack I was able to continue our daily walks and hikes and throw Rye in whenever she was tired or it got technical.

With a small compartment at the bottom of the bag and hip pockets the bag does allow for some storage but I do wish there was more storage for other hiking essentials (still better than other dog bags I looked at).

So far the best dog chew toy and driving/beach shoe ever. I've got all the other chew toys but this is by far her favorite.

Rye not only sleeps in a crate cavebed, she spends her day after hikes snoozing in the Snoozer Pet Products cavebeds

Camping in a tent with 3 dogs solo is… an adventure. 😂 Since I have to carry everything into the backcountry, we have to be pretty selective about what comes along. Every item has to earn its place.

Wh***ey and Bourbon both sleep in my XL sleeping bag, but Rye has officially exceeded that arrangement. I can’t justify carrying a double bag (hello, weight, $$, and bulk), so she gets her own little dog sleeping bag. I use two sleeping mats, sometimes three, and I’ve learned that good-quality gear really does make a difference. With three dogs, I stay far away from ultralight gear. 😂

During the day, my 2-person NEMO tent is basically their crate. They’re perfectly happy hanging out together while I use the “facilities,” make food, or take a break. And honestly, some of my favorite camping moments are when it’s a little rainy outside and we all pile in for a nap.

Of course, everything gets messy. Dirty. Sandy. Hairy.

But three happy dogs in the backcountry? Totally worth the extra weight.

Excuse me while I obsess over the most perfect day with my Wh***ey, Bourbon and Rye.

4m puppy camping? It was unforgettable, challenging, exhausting, funny, a little stressful and just so much fun. I'm very grateful to Tina and Carrie for being ever so patient and helpful with the puppy naps, wrangling, chaos, and stolen shoes.
