Cletus, Rosco and I drove to South Canoe for a big 3hr adventure hike yesterday morning. We pulled into the parking lot and noticed yellow caution tape across the trail head and a poster stating 'Aggressive bear in area, DO NOT HIKE OR BIKE TRAILS'. Okay... change of plans, off to Rubberhead. I thoroughly enjoyed the change of venue as the views from up there are breath taking. On our last leg of the hike I noticed that I was not the only one sampling the delicious wild berries. Suddenly a large animal crashed through the bushes away (luckily) from us. I did as any sane person would do (with slightly higher adrenaline surging) and dragged the boys crashing in the other direction! My bear bell possibly quite effective suddenly seemed rather inadequate…. So I decided to kick my safety up a notch.
