Parkwest Pet Clinic

Parkwest Pet Clinic A small animal practice located in west Edmonton, dedicated to enhancing the lives of your furry family members! 🐶🐱🐾💕 We diagnose before we treat!

We want our clients to know that it is our priority to provide high quality professional care to their pets and to assure that the owners are well informed and comfortable with the decisions we make regarding their pets care. We schedule a full 30-minute appointment for all our exams. This allows ample time to discuss your concerns with our doctors and to provide your pet with a comprehensive exam

. If you phone us with questions, our client care specialists are happy to assist you. If additional information is needed, a doctor calls you back the same day. We provide expert medical care, should your pet become ill or injured. We offer a full range of excellent animal care with specialized diagnostic and life-saving skills. We also provide referral to and consultations with board certified specialists.

Dear loyal pet parents:

As many of you know, the ongoing LRT construction project along 87 Ave NW has significantly impacted access to our practice. With roadwork currently taking place directly in front of the clinic, traffic is being diverted and access routes have changed, making it more challenging for clients and team members to reach our location.

For the safety of our clients and patients we are temporarily closing Parkwest Pet Clinic on June 19, 2026 and planning to reopen in October. To ease the disruption to our services, our team will temporarily be relocated to our sister clinic, Lessard Callingwood Veterinary Hospital, who have agreed to graciously share their space with our team and our clients.

*the last day to request special order medications is tomorrow, June 16th.*

* if your pet has an appointment booked after June 19th, we will contact you for rescheduling options*

🐱Do you know how to tell if your cat is in pain?😿

In our experience, the most common indicators of pain or discomfort in cats noticed by pet parents are: hiding, decreased appetite, decreased water intake, over grooming or a noticeable decline in self grooming, vocalization, sudden aggression or any behavioural changes, vomiting, and lethargy. ( there’s definitely a few more!)
These are very vague symptoms that may or may not relate to pain or discomfort. Although many cats show these behaviour and physical changes, many of our feline friends don’t show any signs.

This is where a very handy tool comes into play. This tool is called the Feline Grimace Scale. Essentially, the FGS is a valuable tool that Veterinary professionals use daily To help us assess the level of pain and discomfort in even the most stoic of cats. Subtle changes in facial expressions and body language are key factors when determining the degree of pain in cats or it may also be used to rule out pain. This tool has helped us ensure that our feline friends are pain free and comfortable.

Providing evidence such as the FGS when discussing pain with cat parents is essential to our daily practice, because you are not expected to know the subtle signs of pain but you know your cat best and you know when something is not right. This tool helps us validate your concerns and start your feline friend on the path of relief and treatment.
