You won't save money by delaying the groom.
๐ โIโm going to save money by waiting a few โextraโ months between grooms.โ ๐
๐๐ผRespectfullyโฆ thatโs one of the biggest myths in dog grooming.
I actually lost a client over this.๐คฏ
They decided to skip grooming appointments for months because they thought theyโd โsave moneyโ by letting the coat grow long and then just shaving it โshortโ.
Spoiler alert: It didnโt save them a dime.
What it did do was turn grooming from a normal part of the dogโs life into a once-in-a-blue-moon event that the poor dog no longer understood.๐ญ on an already super ๏ฟผanxious (semi aggressive) dog, that I tried so hard to bring down a notch for the last two yearsโฆ. All out the window now.
Instead of walking into the van thinking, โOh, itโs grooming day,โ this dog came in thinking, โWhat fresh betrayal is this?!โ๐พ
They were extremely anxious, overwhelmed, and became reactive because โtheyโ had no idea why I was suddenly brushing, clipping, and handling โthemโ after months without any grooming.
That meant extra time.โฑ๏ธ
Extra patience.๐งโโ๏ธ
Extra safety precautions.๐ซท๐ผ
Special handling.๐ช๐ผ
Then the wife was upset because the price was higher.๐ The husband was flabbergasted days later questioning why it costed so much that day. Because it should have been cheaper because we were goingโฆ shorter.
Hereโs the thingโฆ
You canโt disappear for 3, 4, 5+ months and expect to pay the same as the client who faithfully keeps their dog on a 2-, 4-, or 6-week schedule.๐ซช
๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผThatโs like never changing the oil in your car, blowing the engine, and asking why the repair bill isnโt the same as routine maintenance.๐๐
Dogs that are groomed regularly are cleaner, calmer, easier to handle, and their coats are healthier.๐ฉ
๐๐ผDogs that only come in a few times a year often arrive with overgrown coats, hidden matting, impacted undercoat, overgrown nails, and a grooming tolerance thatโs gone right out the window. They also put far more wear and tear on thousands of dollars worth of professional equipment. That could be destroyed by one single dog. Imagine if the client was charged the price of the tool that their dog damaged!?
How absurd!

Skipping appointments doesnโt save money, it usually just delays the bill and makes it bigger.๐
Your dogโs grooming schedule isnโt a subscription to cute. Itโs preventative maintenance.๐ซฐ๐ผ
Donโt be mad at your groomer because your budgeting strategy turned into your dogโs anxiety.
