What’s That Smell?

If your dog’s paws are starting to smell a little like corn chips, popcorn or something funky, it may be more than just what they stepped in!

Dogs naturally have bacteria and yeast on their paws, but moisture trapped between those little toes can sometimes cause odour to become stronger.

Regular grooming helps keep paws clean, trimmed and fresh and gives us a chance to notice when something doesn’t look quite right.

Because those adorable little feet get into EVERYTHING.

October is Pet Vaccination Month, a great reminder to check that your furry family members are up to date on their vaccinations.

Why does your dog keep licking their paws?

A little paw licking is normal.
Constant licking is worth paying attention to.

It can be a sign of allergies, dry or irritated skin,
something caught between the toes, a small injury,
yeast or bacterial irritation, or sometimes boredom or anxiety.

For a grooming post, I’d keep the message simple:

LICK. LICK. LICK.

Your dog’s paws might be trying to tell you something.

Regular grooming gives us a chance to get a closer look at those paws,
nails and the areas between the toes.

Today we're celebrating our fabulous feline friends! The independent thinkers, professional nappers, midnight zoomie champions and little troublemakers who somehow manage to rule the entire household!

Whether they're curling up on your lap, knocking things off the counter or giving you that famous cat attitude, life just wouldn't be the same without them!

At Ashley Howard Grooming, we know that cats deserve just as much love, care and attention as their canine counterparts.

This is a good grooming education topic

Cats are curious, and those colourful berries outside can be tempting
but not every fall plant or berry is safe for them.

If your cat spends time outdoors,
keep an eye on what they’re sniffing,
chewing or bringing home in their coat.

Berries, burrs, seeds and plant debris can

also become tangled in longer fur and sometimes irritate the skin.
A quick coat and paw check when they come inside can save you
and your cat, some trouble later.

Doggy Thanksgiving Dinner

Turkey & Pumpkin Harvest Bowl

Ingredients
½ cup cooked plain turkey, chopped or shredded — no skin or bones
¼ cup plain pumpkin purée — not pumpkin pie filling
¼ cup cooked sweet potato, mashed
2 tbsp cooked green beans, chopped
1 tbsp plain cooked oats or brown rice, optional

Mix everything together and serve as a small special treat alongside your dog’s regular food. Let all ingredients cool completely first.

Important: No onion, garlic, gravy, stuffing, butter, heavy seasoning, cooked bones, raisins, grapes, chocolate, or artificial sweeteners such as xylitol.

This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for the wagging tails, tiny paws, happy purrs and all the wonderful pets and people who trust Ashley with their care.

May your weekend be filled with good food, cozy cuddles and maybe a few extra treats under the table.

Remember, some of our Thanksgiving favourites aren’t safe for our furry family members, so keep the stuffing, gravy, onions, garlic, cooked bones and desserts out of paw’s reach.
