🌱🐶 Why Does My Dog Eat Grass?
If you’ve ever watched your dog happily munching on grass during a walk, you may have wondered, “Why are you doing that?!” 😂
The truth is, grass-eating is fairly common in dogs, and it doesn’t always mean something is wrong.
Here are a few possible reasons your dog may eat grass:
🌱 They simply like it! Some dogs enjoy the taste or texture of grass
🥣 They may be looking for extra fiber.
Grass contains some fiber, although it shouldn't be relied on as a nutritional source
🧠 Boredom or habit.
Some dogs may graze when they're bored, curious, or simply because they've developed the habit
🤢 An upset stomach?
You may have heard that dogs eat grass to make themselves vomit.
While some dogs do vomit after eating grass, research doesn't show that this is the main reason dogs graze.
🚩 When should you be concerned?
Occasional grass-eating in an otherwise happy, healthy dog is often not a cause for concern.
However, if your dog is suddenly eating large amounts of grass, repeatedly vomiting, has diarrhea, seems painful or lethargic, or you notice other changes in their appetite or behavior, it's a good idea to speak with your veterinarian.
And remember: 🌿 not all grass is safe.
Avoid letting your dog eat grass that may have been treated with herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals.
