💜 Why do we sometimes give cats a lion cut?

This sweet cat came to us with severe matting. When mats become tight against the skin, they pull painfully with every movement, block airflow, and trap dirt, dandruff, and moisture underneath. Left untreated, they can lead to skin irritation and infections.

Many people ask, “Why not just brush the mats out?”

Unfortunately, in cases like this, brushing is often much more painful than carefully shaving the coat. Tight mats are attached close to the skin, and trying to comb them out can cause unnecessary pain and even injure the skin.

❤️ We also never judge pet owners. This can happen to anyone. Many cats have a thick undercoat that mats easily, especially senior, overweight, or less active cats. Some cats simply do not tolerate brushing, making home grooming very difficult even for the most loving owners.

Sometimes a lion cut is not about appearance—it’s the kindest and safest way to relieve discomfort and improve the cat’s quality of life. The fur will grow back, but the immediate comfort and health benefits are priceless.
