Big personality. Big appetite. Big lizard.
Happy National Iguana Awareness Day!

Iguanas are fascinating reptiles with plenty of quirks worth celebrating - from their impressive climbing skills to the little “third eye” on top of their heads!

But remember: exotic pets are a big commitment. Before bringing one home, make sure you understand their needs, lifespan, size, diet, and habitat requirements. The best way to love an animal is to be prepared to care for it for life.

Want to learn more? Come visit Sylvester in Sea Life Caverns to discover how charming these lizards can be!

Goldfish are great pets. But in Alberta’s lakes? Not so much.

This World Lake Day, we’re celebrating the incredible lakes, rivers, and aquatic life that make Alberta special — and reminding everyone to Don’t Let It Loose!

That little goldfish may look harmless, but releasing aquarium fish into the wild can cause big problems. Goldfish can survive in Alberta waterways, grow much larger than you might expect, and compete with native species for food and habitat.
So please: keep your goldfish at home, not in the lake.

Have a fish you can no longer care for? Don’t release it. Instead, find a responsible rehoming option.

Let’s keep Alberta’s lakes full of the wildlife that belongs there.
Cute in your aquarium. Not in our lakes. Don’t Let It Loose!

Happy World Conservation Day!

Today is a reminder that protecting our natural world starts with the choices we make every day. While global conservation efforts are essential, individual actions add up to create lasting change.

One simple way to make a difference is through citizen science—projects where people help scientists collect data about the world around them. A great example is the Nature Conservancy of Canada's Big Backyard BioBlitz, where you can record the plants, animals, insects, and fungi you observe to help researchers better understand and protect biodiversity.

Whether you join a BioBlitz, plant native species, reduce single-use plastics, or simply spend time learning about the wildlife in your own backyard, every action helps conserve the ecosystems we all depend on.

What action will you take for nature today?

Today, we're celebrating National Zookeepers Week and the incredible people who make Marine Life such a special place.

To our amazing team of zookeepers—thank you for your passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the animals in your care. Your days start early, end late, and are filled with hard work, compassion, problem-solving, and countless moments that often go unseen. Every enrichment item you create, every habitat you maintain, every training session, health check, and every act of patience and kindness makes a meaningful difference.

Thank you for the care, professionalism, and heart you bring to your work every single day. Your commitment to providing exceptional animal welfare, supporting one another, and creating meaningful experiences that inspire our guests to connect with wildlife and conservation does not go unnoticed.

Your dedication, resilience, and expertise are the foundation of everything we do. We are incredibly grateful for all that you contribute—not just this week, but every day of the year.

Happy National Zookeepers Week! Please join us in celebrating the incredible people behind the scenes who make it all possible.

He may not be a musician, but every good boy deserves... cake. An ice cake, in fact! Our trainers made Wembley a delicious-looking ice cake for his birthday and then tossed some of his favorite fish onto it to help him celebrate another journey around the sun. We hope you enjoy these exclusive photos of the birthday boy himself!

Happy 4th Birthday to Wembley, our California Sea Lion! Come help us celebrate his 4th birthday during our 2:00pm Sea Lion Presentation, today!

Wembley was born right here, at Marine Life, to mom, Quinty, and dad, Pablo!

Wembley is full of energy and is currently learning how to do tons of new things.

As a juvenile Sea Lion, he still has several years of growing to go before he is as big as his dad! In this photo, you can see him enjoying a favorite enrichment item (or toy), a firehose raft!
