Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society - GEARS Our vision is simple: We are gearing towards a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect. (822791430RR0001)
Our purpose is to:

1.

Our mission is to provide force-free compassionate care as a foster home-based animal rescue; focusing on rehabilitation and responsible rehoming. Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) is a non-profit organization. Identify and take into immediate foster care, animals that are:
a. Stray, abandoned, or homeless
b. May face homelessness due to owner death or placement in a higher level of

care
c. Owned by someone leaving an abusive situation

2. Train and rehabilitate rescued animals, bringing out their full potential. All animals will receive vet care as required, and will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

3. Find suitable approved foster and adoptive homes for rescued animals based on animal characteristics and an in-depth screening of potential homes.

4. Provide education and assistance to adoptive homes, ensuring the permanent welfare of the adopted animal.

5. Educate the public on GEARS mission, vision, and goals, as well as responsible pet ownership, animal interaction, and animal welfare.

6. Support and collaborate with local organizations and businesses with the goal of improving the lives of animals in Alberta.

Hello! I’m Sirius, but I am not very serious at all. In fact, I am a very silly cat who can get so comfy that I fall off my own perch sometimes. But it’s okay – I can catch myself and climb back up to stretch my toe beans out in the sun.

While I like to enjoy my time in the sun, I’ll love cuddling with you even more. You see, I don’t like to be alone at all. I get all sad and cry until someone picks me up like the baby I am. In fact, I have some separation anxiety, and will often look for reassurance that you’re still around at night before going back to sleeping right beside you. Things can be scary and it might take a little bit to warm up to you – I am very shy when I’m in a new space - but as soon as I know you’re safe you will be my whole world and there would be no one else I’d rather be with.

Right now I spend my days playing with my cat big brother, playing constantly with all the toys I can find, and having a big appetite. There is no cat food I won’t eat, but I am very good at only eating enough to keep me full. Otherwise I love to run around the house and explore new things at my own pace. I would make an excellent addition to any home with someone who already has a cat and who is okay with a loving velcro kitty.

HELLO!!!!

My name is Kimba. I’m told I’m so beautiful. Since I found my reflection in the mirror, I like to spend a little bit of time each day admiring my beauty. I’m the most curious kitty, I mustsmell everything, and be everywhere; I follow my foster mama around and watch everything she does… I love to play with my furry friend, but I’m just as content to play by myself. I throw things up in the air and jump to catch them. I often hear laughter when I’m playing. I’m just busy at play.

I am not a fussy eater at all, I love the wet stuff more than the dry but if you put a Churu or Catit treat on it, I will be happy to eat it for you. I was found on the street and brought into the rescue, so I’m not used to having to share things, but I am learning to take turns eating Churu with my fur friend. But Itend to be pushy as I’m an extremely confident kitty cat. I’m so confident that I have no trouble letting myself out of the doorinto the hall and then frantically try to get back into the doorbefore I’m caught. (note to adopting parents), make sure all your doors are locked, this guy is an escape artist. He’s good at getting out no so good about getting back in.

I like to be around my furry friend or my foster mama… I don’t like to be by myself. My favorite toys are springs and chirping toys and just about any other toy, I will go to the toybox and select 3 or 5 or 10 toys and play with them all at the same time.

I’m still very much a kitten and am learning to calm down when it comes to food, my fur friend wrestles with me every day all day long. We chase each other around the house constantly. Great fun.

Rescue Story: Chiminee was brought into GEARS’ care after he was found as a stray.

Hi there! I am Chimnee,

I am your puurfect blend of playful and affectionate.I will happily curl into your lap or lay on your chest, or next to you, and purr you to sleep but I also enjoy my own space. I have been known to, on more than one occasion, get so into a cuddle that I roll right out of a lap or off of a bed most ungracefully.

I am still quite young, so I still have lots of energy. My hobbies include bird watching, wand toys, stealing socks, and most of all SPRING TOYS! I am an exceptional hunter, mouse toys do not stand a chance against me. But I am not a fan of laser pointers, I prefer my toys to be 3d, thank you very much. Ideally I would love a home with some cat trees or tall shelves as I love to be up high.

My foster mom has no pets or children so it's not confirmed but it is suspected I would do well in a home with other pets or children as I am such a playful guy. I do sometimes get overstimulated or excited and I express this with love bites, I am working on it!

I am welcoming of guests, I like to make rounds to ensure everyone has a chance for some pets. I am just a goofy guy with so much love to give.

We have several amazing adult dogs waiting for their chance to come into GEARS care — and we can’t bring them in without foster homes.

These sweet pups are just a few of the dogs hoping for a safe place to land. Many are great with other dogs, cats, and kids. They’re housetrained, non-destructive, and ready to be part of a family.
