October is RVT Month, and we are celebrating the incredible Registered Veterinary Technologists who pour their hearts into our clinic every single day!

From surgical nursing and anesthesia to diagnostics, wellness care, and everything in between, our RVTs are the heartbeat of veterinary medicine. We couldn't do what we do without their dedicated care, expertise, and passion.

To honor them, the Edmonton High Level Bridge will be shining in blue and green on October 28th! 💚💙

Did you know pets can be exposed to rabies through contact with wildlife?

The Alberta Rabies Program reports that unvaccinated cats catching bats account for the largest number of rabies-related calls they receive each year.

Over the past five years, about 2–5% of bats tested annually have been positive for rabies. Keeping your pets’ rabies vaccinations up to date can help protect them if they encounter an infected animal.

Talk to your veterinarian about keeping your pet’s rabies vaccination up to date, and contact your veterinary clinic if your pet has been in contact with a bat or other wildlife.

🐾 Why does my pet need up-to-date vaccines before a procedure? 🏥

If your furry family member has an upcoming surgery or dental cleaning, you might wonder why we require current core vaccines first.

It all comes down to keeping your pet safe! Here is why timing matters:

Immune System Support: General anesthesia and surgical procedures temporarily stress your pet's body, lowering their natural defenses. Vaccines act as an active shield while they rest and heal.

Clinic Safety: Just like hospitals for humans, veterinary spaces house many recovering animals. Prior vaccinations ensure your pet is fully protected against common airborne or surface-bound illnesses during their stay.

The 2-Week Window: Vaccines aren't instant—it takes about 10 to 14 days for a pet's body to build peak immunity. Getting them done early ensures full protection on appointment day.

💡 Have questions or vaccine exceptions? Please reach out to our clinic team prior to your pet's appointment so we can discuss our safety protocols with you!
