August Long Weekend Closure Notice

Routine f***l screening is about more than just checking for “worms.” 🐾

During your pet’s wellness appointment, we may recommend a f***l screening to help check for intestinal parasites — including parasites that can affect both pets and people.
One parasite of concern in Alberta is Echinococcus multilocularis, a tiny tapeworm carried by wildlife such as coyotes and foxes, and sometimes by dogs and cats. Alberta Health notes that this parasite can be spread through infected f***s in the environment, and the eggs can survive outdoors for up to a year.
Research has also confirmed that Edmonton is considered a hotspot for human alveolar echinococcosis cases, and a study of 775 Edmonton dogs found Echinococcus multilocularis present in local domestic dogs, even though the overall detected prevalence was low.

Because many pets with intestinal parasites may show no obvious symptoms, routine f***l screening is an important part of preventive care — especially for pets who visit off-leash parks, hunt or eat rodents, spend time in yards where wildlife may pass through, or live with children, seniors, or immunocompromised family members.
