We are absolutely humbled and honoured to have received a nomination to Trupanion’s Veterinary Team of the Year. Our oncology team specifically was nominated for the hard work they do each and every day to battle cancer in our dear furry family members. Coco Nut’s story was written by her owner, Shannon, and highlights the great individualized and specialized care our oncology team provides.

Baby hares often are brought to our clinic with the best of intentions, thinking they have been abandoned. However, this is not typically the case and can be harmful to their survival. This spring, if you see a baby hare, leave it there.

Key Reasons to Leave Baby Hares Alone:

-Normal Behavior: Mother hares only visit their young for a few minutes at dawn and dusk to avoid attracting predators.
-No Scent: Babies have no natural scent, which keeps them hidden. Human scent can attract predators.
-High Stress/Mortality: Hares are high-stress prey animals; they can die from the stress of being handled.
-Safety Strategy: They are born fully furred with eyes open and “freeze” in the face of danger, which can make them seem defenseless or injured.

When to Intervene (Contact a Professional):

-The hare has obvious, visible injuries (e.g., blood, broken limbs).
-It is in immediate, extreme danger (e.g., in a busy parking lot), in which case it can be moved to a nearby bush.
-You know the mother has been killed.

If you find an injured baby hare in Alberta, contact the WILDNorth hotline at 780-914-4118 or the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation.

This week we celebrate the heart of our front desk — our incredible client care team 💙🐾

They are the calm voice when a pet is rushed through the door in an emergency.
They are the steady hands answering phones that never seem to stop ringing.
They are the compassionate souls who sit with families during the hardest goodbyes, guiding them through euthanasia decisions with kindness, patience, and understanding 🌈🐶🐱

Our client care team helps families navigate aftercare choices, answer difficult questions, and create a space where people feel supported, heard, and cared for — even on the toughest days. They balance empathy with efficiency, all while keeping the hospital running smoothly behind the scenes.

To our client care team:
Thank you for your calm in chaos.
Thank you for your compassion in grief.
Thank you for being the first smile and the last comforting word.

We appreciate you today and every day. 💐✨

We are beyond grateful for the incredible outpouring of love and generosity for Kali’s Wish. Thanks to your donations, we’re able to provide comfort through KONGs for cancer patients when they need it most. Thank you for helping make this possible. 🐾✨

🎁 Kongs for Kali is back at Boreal Veterinary Centre! 🎁
This November and December, we’re proud to once again support the KONG Toy Campaign in partnership with Kali’s Wish Cancer Foundation — Canada’s only charity dedicated to families facing pet cancer.
Here’s how your donation makes an impact:
🐾 For every $10 donated, KONG donates one toy to a dog undergoing cancer treatment or in palliative care.
💖 Your support also funds Kali’s Wish programs, bringing comfort, education, and hope to families across Canada.
Our Oncology Department deeply appreciates this campaign. These donations give our team the ability to offer families a small moment of positivity on some of their hardest days. The simple joy of a KONG toy can bring comfort, distraction, and a warm reminder that they’re not alone in their journey.
✨ Let’s keep that impact growing. Together, we can bring smiles, tail wags, and moments of joy to pets bravely fighting cancer. ✨

We had an amazing time at the CanWest Veterinary Conference in Banff! 🏔️
It was such a great opportunity to learn, connect, and share what Boreal has to offer. We’re always inspired by the chance to spend time with like-minded professionals who are just as passionate about veterinary medicine as we are. 💙
Congrats to the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association for another successful year!
