For this little Schnauzer, getting through a groom was something he hadn’t been able to do in a very long time.

This sweet little guy had struggled so much with grooming that he’d reached the point of needing anaesthesia at the vet just to be shaved.

We knew this wasn’t going to be an ordinary grooming appointment. This was about rebuilding trust and helping him find his confidence again.

We spent the first 15 minutes sitting on the floor with him. No expectations, no asking anything of him. Just letting him sniff us and get to know us on his own terms.

As we worked through his groom, there were moments when fear took over and he would freeze or resist. With patience, gentle movement, massage and Reiki, we helped support him through his fear without pushing him beyond what he could handle.

Resistance to grooming isn’t always disobedience. Sometimes it’s simply fear or uncertainty. Recognizing those moments and knowing when to ease the pressure makes all the difference. It gives him the space to process his fear and slowly build his confidence again.

Nearly two hours later, we had one very handsome little Schnauzer with a complete groom!

This was one of the most rewarding grooms we’ve done in a long time. Not because of the haircut, but because of the trust we built along the way. He worked so hard to get there, and we couldn’t have been prouder of him. That little guy had more courage than he knew!

We know when to slow down, when to give them a minute, and when not to push.

Because once you have that trust, grooming becomes a whole different experience. ❤️
