A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary We provide a forever home for rescued farm animals who have been abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances.

We are a volunteer run, registered Charity organisation in Duncan BC, that offers a forever home for rescued farm animals who are abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances. Our Sanctuary was founded in September 2017 and we are the first and only Farm Sanctuary in Canada to be Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. We currently care for near

ly 200 residents including pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, peafowl, dogs, guinea pigs, and cats. We ensure all our animals are provided with the best quality care and a safe home where they are able to live out their natural lives. We aim to advance education by providing workshops, seminars, classes, and presentations on animal practices, rescue, and care. In early 2019 we began an adoption and foster program to place healthy and well-suited, non-farm animals in safe and loving homes. Our Sanctuary provides a forever home for farm animals who are older, are difficult to place, have diverse needs, have behavioural issues, or require long term medical intervention. Our volunteers help us with the everyday care of the animals, social media, graphic design, fundraising, newsletter writing, and event planning, and ensure the animals are well cared for and our organisation runs smoothly. We would also like to acknowledge that our Sanctuary is located within the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Quw'utsun Nation, near the traditional village of Ts'alha'um.

She is a Muscovy duck, a breed known for their large claws and sturdy legs, making them excellent climbers.

A long overdue update on Tango. ❤️

Eight weeks ago, we had to make an emergency call to our equine veterinarian because Tango could no longer get up on his own, and despite our best efforts, we couldn’t help him stand.

When his veterinarian arrived, it took three of us and a rope carefully placed under his abdomen to get him standing.

From that day forward, Tango couldn’t stand without assistance. We ran bloodwork, started vitamin supplements, and tried anti-inflammatories under his veterinarian’s direction, but nothing seemed to help.

For seven straight weeks, our team helped Tango to his feet 4–5 times a day. At night, he slept in a heavily bedded area with a deep layer of shavings to cushion his body when he lay down and attempted to get back up.

The hardest part was that when Tango was standing, he was still completely himself. He was happy and engaged. He wasn’t falling, he simply couldn’t get himself back up after choosing to lie down or roll.

We had made a plan to get him through the summer, knowing that when the weather turned colder and wetter, we would likely have to say goodbye.

Then, something unexpected happened.

We were recommended a product called Recovery, and within three days, Tango was standing on his own in the mornings. He still needed help during the day, but he became stronger with each passing day.

Now, more than a week later, Tango no longer needs assistance getting up! 🥹❤️

We’re keeping his knee socks on to protect his knees from getting scuffed as he stands, but otherwise, we’re simply watching him regain his strength.

We don’t know whether his recovery is due to time, the supplements, Recovery, or a combination of everything. What we do know is that Tango was as persistent as we were, and neither of us gave up.

We are incredibly grateful this gentle soul is still with us, and improving every single day.

Join us in caring for rescued animals. Duties include:

🌿 Picking up p**p

🌿 Washing and refilling water dishes
🌿 Cleaning feed dishes
🌿 Animal health exams
🌿 Sorting produce for the animals
🌿 Yard work
🌿 Gardening

🐔 Please welcome Harmony! 💕

Four weeks ago, Harmony was found abandoned in the woods. Without that kind person's intervention, Harmony would not have survived. But fate had other plans.

When Harmony arrived in our care, she was covered in lice and suffering from leg mites. Her feet are also deformed for reasons unknown, but thankfully, she is able to get around fairly well and walk unassisted.

Dumping unwanted chickens is far too common, and for many, it ends in tragedy. But Harmony was lucky. A kind person found her, scooped her up, and made sure she had somewhere safe to go. ❤️

And it turns out Harmony has quite the personality! She loves to peck at human toes, so if you're wearing sandals around her, consider yourself warned! 😂 She is also incredibly fond of her human friends and will happily follow them wherever they go.

Today, Harmony is exactly where she belongs, surrounded by people who see her, value her, and will make sure she is never discarded again.

Welcome home, sweet Harmony. You are safe now. 💕🐔

💛 A little update on our tiny fighter, Plume! 💛

We’re so happy to share some encouraging news about our little duck. Up until yesterday, Plume was receiving three tube feedings a day, along with subcutaneous fluids, as we worked to support her recovery.

Her X-rays showed some concerning results, particularly the enlarged size of her kidneys, and her bloodwork showed elevated uric acid levels. A few days ago, we started her on antibiotics three times a day, and by Friday, we were beginning to see some wonderful little signs of improvement. Her activity level was picking up, and she was showing more interest in eating some of her favourite high-value foods.

Then yesterday evening, we caught her doing something we’ve been waiting and hoping to see, eating her regular duck pellets all on her own! 🥹💕

Because of this progress, we’ve now been able to discontinue her tube feedings. She’ll continue her antibiotics for another week and a half, and we’ll keep supporting her as she continues to recover.

We’re incredibly hopeful that this positive progress will continue. Our tiny Plume has been such a fighter, and we couldn’t be more proud of her. 🦆💛
