Well everyone, it’s time again for another round of Guess that Breed!

Meet Freddy. Despite their name this breed was believed to have originated from China or Korea and later given as a gift to nobility in another country. (We can’t say which company because that’s too big of a hint).
Much like cats, these guys are well known to be incredible climbers, and it wouldn’t be surprising to find them perched high up on vantage points in your home.

At Kinsol, we’re proud to be a privately owned practice. The West Coast Veterinary Resource Collective recently created a brochure to help our community understand the role independent vet clinics play in providing care for your pets.

Thank you to .coast.vrc for raising awareness around privately owned veterinary practices.

📣 Exciting news! 📣

Please join us in welcoming Netanya Karmel back to Kinsol, but this time as a DVM! 👩🏻‍⚕️ 🐾

That’s right Dr. Karmel has put in the hard work and dedication it takes to complete the program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and is now a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

We know our clients will love getting to know her and we look forward to her starting with us in August!

🐾 Meet Ernie 🐾
Ernie is a ~1.5-year-old male neutered, medium-sized (60lb) sweetheart who is looking for his forever home ❤️

Originally found as a stray from a reserve in Northern Manitoba, Ernie has spent the past 4–5 months learning what it means to be a loved pet - and he’s absolutely thriving. He’s made an incredible transformation and is ready to find his people.
Ernie has been through a lot physically. A previous traumatic injury to his left hind leg left him struggling to use it, but after two knee surgeries, he’s making great progress and gradually getting back to full activity. He also has mild to moderate hip dysplasia in both hips, which is not currently causing him any issues. Otherwise, he’s a healthy, happy boy.
What makes Ernie special:
• medium energy: loves to play, but equally committed to a good nap
• he is a HUGE suck, adores belly rubs and affection in general
• adores people—hasn’t met a single one he doesn’t like
• great with other dogs and would love a canine companion
Ernie could potentially live with a dog-savvy cat, but this remains to be seen (he just wants to play, which can be intimidating for cats).
Ernie has so far been very good with kids, and enjoys them, but a home without very small children is preferred.
Ernie is the kind of dog who just wants to be near you - on the couch, in the yard, or out exploring. He’s looking for a home that will give him the love, time, and care he deserves, including ongoing vet care for his orthopedic needs.
His dream home includes:
• A yard to romp around in
• People who enjoy spending time outdoors
• A family who won’t mind sharing the couch
Ernie is truly a special, resilient, and loving dog who will give back so much more than he asks for.

These ladies right here deserve more than a week to be truly appreciated for the hard work and care they provide in the clinic. They are the first faces you see when you and your pet walk through the doors at Kinsol and again on your way out!

You’ll very likely recognize Ineke who has been a member of the Kinsol team since we opened our new location in 2021. She divides her time between being the HR Manager and working as a receptionist. Ineke’s heart is at the front desk helping clients and their pets face to face or over the phone.

Dawn started working at Kinsol in 2025. You’ll see her upfront scoping out the Chihuahuas and basically any cat that walks through the doors! She always finds her way to the treatment area to sneak in a cuddle with a pet.

Andrea joined our team January 2026. Andrea has a big heart and it shows every day not only in the way she cares for clients and their pets, but also in the way she interacts with her coworkers. She has owned a number of animals (not to mention a wide variety) throughout the years.

Emily shared a first day with Andrea. Funny story- on their first day we tricked these ladies into dancing during the morning huddle by pretending that it was something we did morning 💃🏻 💃🏻 😆 they were great sports! When not at work Emily likes to garden with her cat Luna and go on road trips with her partner.

Jenn joined the Kinsol team in February 2026. She took no time to fit in and get busy. When she’s not helping pets and their families at Kinsol she likes to camp, fish and write children’s books! 📚

With Easter right around the corner we wanted to remind everyone that while flowers make beautiful gifts and decorations, many are highly toxic to our pets!

Please keep all the members of a household in mind before gifting or bringing home flowers 💐

We bet you didn’t know it was World Sleep Day on Friday, did you?!

The staff at Kinsol were asked if they had any cute photos of their pets sleeping… and let’s just say the pictures came flooding in. Any chance to show off pets and the staff go crazy! This is about half of what was sent in.

It’s widely known how important sleep is for humans but we should also consider how important it is for our pets.
Sleep is important for dogs as it helps their body repair itself, supports general immune function, and overall physical health. Having a good sleep can even help our pooches reduce inflammation in their body.

In addition to dogs, we know that our cats PRIORITIZE sleep. They can clock up anywhere from twelve to sixteen hours in a day!! While they sleep, cats often doze in “standby mode” rather than deep sleep, remaining alert to their environment. This is where the term “cat nap” comes from.
