We’ve opened up new morning availability for our Structured Pack Walks on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday starting later this month!

These walks are about more than exercise - they help build calmer behaviour, better responsiveness, and real-world manners along the way.

If your dog could use more purposeful outings and support, get in touch through our website to learn more or secure your spot!

These are training-based group walks, led by a professional trainer, where dogs learn to move calmly as part of a pack while maintaining strong behaviour and responsiveness in real-world environments.

This smiley crew is making great progress. Real world training means working through real world distractions 🐾

Eddie, Devi, and Claire practiced structured walking, recalls, and calm engagement through busy Centennial Park and downtown Duncan recently. Huge progress in focus, neutrality around distractions, and recovering calmly around other dogs.

Claire showed a big improvement in confidence and follow-through, while all three dogs handled dog exposures downtown and around the tennis courts with calm redirection and no escalation. Real-life environments create real-life results.

Our Private Training sessions are designed to help dogs build calmness, focus, and better decision-making where it actually matters.

🐾 Skye’s First Session Recap 🐾

Today’s session focused on helping Skye work through:
• Chasing/fixating on chickens & cats
• Unreliable recall & wandering
• Zoomies, jumping & nipping
• Nervousness around people, dogs, bikes & unfamiliar situations

The biggest theme today?
👉 Interrupt early before arousal escalates.

Whether it’s chickens, cats, zoomies, or nervous behaviors, the goal is to catch the moment BEFORE Skye tips over threshold.

✨ Key training focuses:
• Reward engagement and eye contact
• Build calmness around triggers
• Create distance when needed
• Advocate for her instead of forcing interactions
• Use movement and food to help regulate arousal

One of the most effective tools today was food scatters. Sniffing helps calm the nervous system and gives dogs a productive outlet when emotions start running high.

For nervousness around people and dogs, the goal isn’t friendliness — it’s neutrality and confidence. We want Skye learning:
“Scary things predict good things.”

We also discussed:
✔ Recall foundations
✔ Recharging the clicker marker
✔ Structured freedom vs. total freedom
✔ Using long lines and leash guidance to prevent rehearsing unwanted behaviors

Overall, Skye did great today and Skye's owner already has a strong understanding of training and dog behavior. With consistency, timing, and structure, Skye is on a great path forward. 🖤

Big wins for little Yogi with his training!

Last week’s session focused on polite greetings, calm boundary work at the gate, and beginning recall games. Instead of jumping on guests or rushing the door, Yogi is learning that calm sits open opportunities and earns rewards 🐾

We also introduced early recall work with fun “get it” games to help build engagement and responsiveness.
These are small victories that add up quickly!

This is what our Private Training sessions are designed for, practical skills that fit into real life, not just perfect behavior in a controlled training environment.

One of the best parts of living and working in the Cowichan Valley is how many beautiful places there are to explore with dogs.

From quiet trails to river spots to forest paths, there is no shortage of places to get out, practice some skills, and enjoy the adventure together. 🐾

Whether it is on a structured walk, during a private training session, or just part of your weekend plans, these kinds of outings do so much more than burn energy. They build confidence, connection, and a dog who knows how to be out in the world with you 🤎🌲💦

Happy pups, engaged minds, and a whole lot of fresh air 🐾

This is the kind of outing we love: dogs getting to move, think, and stay connected while enjoying the world around them.

Structured walks like these help build confidence, focus, and calmer behaviour over time.
