Our next round of Group Classes will start in the third week of January:

Level 1: Monday, January 18th at 6pm
Level 2: Tuesday, January 19th at 6pm

Eddie had his first Walk & Train session recently, focusing on structured walking, learning what “heel” means, and understanding when it’s time to walk and when it’s time to explore.

He was quite overstimulated by his surroundings, so we kept things slow and consistent, introducing a predictable routine with clear cues and release time to sniff.

As Eddie becomes more comfortable with the structure, we can build better focus and calmer walking habits that make everyday walks more enjoyable for both him and his owner.

Today marks Kaitlyn’s last day as one of our wonderful dog walkers! ❤️

Kaitlyn has an exciting opportunity to work full-time at the SPCA. Sad news for us, but very exciting for her!

Kaitlyn is a kind, sweet and passionate soul with a natural way with animals (and humans, too!). She is truly in the right industry, and I’m so excited for her next chapter!

Did you know Kaitlyn is also a cat trainer? Her kitties, Bagheera and Mortimer, can sit, shake a paw and even go for walks in the forest! 🐈🌲

Thank you, Kaitlyn, for being such a delight to work alongside. We wish you all the best in this exciting new adventure. You will be missed! ❤️

A strong recall is built long before you actually need it.

Start with short distances at home or in the yard and make coming back to you rewarding.

Once your dog reaches you, give them their reward and release them again so they learn that coming when called is a normal part of their day.

The more positive practice you build in now, the more prepared your dog will be when the environment gets harder.

Nala had a big day at McAdam Park, working around dogs and people while learning that she didn’t have to flee when things felt unfamiliar.

We gave her space, kept interactions calm and controlled, and saw some really encouraging moments, including calmly observing other dogs, accepting attention from people, and even choosing to approach another dog for a quick sniff on her own.

For a small dog in a busy environment, those moments matter. The goal is to help Nala feel more comfortable in everyday situations so outings can become less stressful for her and her owner.

This is the kind of real-world work we focus on through Private Training, building confidence gradually without forcing interactions.

Teaching your dog to go to a bed or mat, lie down, and stay there gives them a simple job when life around them gets busy. Instead of following you from room to room or getting involved in everything happening around them, they learn that their place is where they can relax and wait.

This can be especially helpful during meals, when guests come over, while the kids are running around, or anytime your dog is struggling to settle.

Start with short periods, reward calm behaviour while they’re staying in place, and use a consistent release word to let them know when they’re finished.

A little structure can go a long way toward helping your dog learn how to settle themselves.

We also had a fun micro Community Walk at Cobble Hill Mountain! Big thanks to Kona and Stanley for joining us. It was great to mix it up and hit the trails to practice our calm leash manners and neutrality around the pack. We passed everyone with ease and enjoyed some great chats along the way. Thanks for being such a wonderful group to work on our skills with!
