Big news! After many months of planning, building, training, and preparing we finally have an opening date to announce! On October 16th we will officially open for our first appointments🎉🎉Starting tomorrow, October 15th, our phone lines will be open for booking. It was a busy day at Trillium today! We moved the contents of 2 storage units of equipment into the clinic😮
Pictured are Dr. Clarke & Dr. Guenther carefully lifting our very special anesthetic ventilators in and out of a truck (these machine weigh 400+ pounds!). Also seen here is our awesome guest helper Wayne, working hard putting our equipment together- we sure are lucky to have amazing family supporting us as we get ready to open🤩

Wow!!! Just wow!!🤩 We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the people of the Cowichan Valley who stopped by today with donations of towels and blankets! Your generosity will keep many animals warm and cozy for their future care at Trillium Animal Hospital🥰 It was so fun to meet so many people (& dogs) today! Thank you so much!

Calling on everyone who said they have towels and blankets to donate to our hospital: we will be collecting towels and blankets this Sunday, September 13th, from 10:00am-12:00pm!
We will also have a box outside to drop donations into on Monday, Sept 14th, from 9:00am-noon!
We will be accepting donations at the clinic, which is located at Unit 910-5301 Chaster Road, Duncan.
We are accepting towels of all sizes and blankets (no large comforters). We do not need any sheets.
Thank you for your support in getting our hospital ready to open!

Have any old towels or blankets hanging around your house that you are thinking of getting rid of? Save them for us!
We will be collecting used towels and blankets to use in clinic to keep our patients warm and cozy☺️
Soon we will announce a day/location to drop off donations, so hold onto any full sized towels, hand towels, and thin blankets that you don’t want. Minor stains are fine, but please no rips or hanging threads. We also will not need any sheets!

Hazel was not super enthused to be featured as a model today😂

And now time to introduce our other owner of Trillium Animal Hospital- Dr. Matthew Guenther!

Dr. Matthew Guenther was born in Nanaimo and grew up in Victoria. He underwent his undergraduate in Biochemistry and Chemistry before moving to Australia to complete his Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne.

Soon after completing his degree, Dr. Guenther moved back to Vancouver Island to spend the next 8 years working in general practice in Port Alberni and Nanaimo. Dr. Guenther then spent 4 years working in emergency medicine during which time he underwent extensive training in cardiac, abdominal, point of care, and general soft tissue ultrasonography. He went on to use these skills in both emergency practice as well as providing mobile ultrasonography for various clinics on the island.

Outside of work you can often find Dr. Guenther spending time with his supportive and caring partner and two children, mountain biking on Mount Tzouhalem or Mount Benson, road cycling through the Cowichan Valley, hiking Mount Prevost, and, when the weather permits, capsizing off the coast of Chemainus on his sailing dinghy.

Dr. Guenther is excited to start a new chapter, bringing his expertise to providing care for patients at Trillium Animal Hospital!

Time to tell you a bit about one of our owners…Meet Dr. Kyle Clarke!

Dr. Kyle Clarke grew up in the Okanagan before moving to Victoria to complete his undergraduate degree in biochemistry. He then moved to Saskatoon, graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 before returning home to Vancouver Island.

Dr. Clarke has spent the past 10 years practicing small animal medicine in the Cowichan Valley. Over that time, he has developed experience in emergency medicine, ultrasonography, dentistry, and surgery. He particularly enjoys the variety that comes with veterinary medicine—no two days (or patients) are quite the same.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Clarke loves spending time with his family - a very supportive wife, two children, and dog named Scarlett. Together, they enjoy going for family walks, day trips around the Island, and playing board games.

After a decade of caring for pets in the Cowichan Valley, Dr. Clarke is excited to bring his experience, enthusiasm, and love of veterinary medicine to Trillium Animal Hospital.
