It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Kaj Guldberg.
Dad was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, farmer, and friend. His quiet strength, work ethic, and love for his family will continue to guide us long after his passing.
We are grateful for the many years, memories, and lessons he shared with us, and for the support and kindness shown by so many during this difficult time.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Conflict and mistakes in business are inevitable. How they are managed is what matters.

Recently, I had a situation play out that is pretty typical. A mistake was made by a business we use. Unfortunately, that mistake will add a not-insignificant amount of risk to our season. On its own, that's one of the many realities of doing business. Mistakes happen. It's concerning, but it's not a make-or-break situation.

What concerned me more was what happened when I raised the issue.

Without hesitation, the person in ultimate authority immediately threw the front-line employee under the bus. The attempted resolution was little more than blame and deflection put on the shoulders of the person lowest in the chain.

Maybe the assumption is that when someone escalates a concern, they're looking for a culprit. Maybe they think we're hoping someone gets disciplined or has a bad day because of it.

For me, that's never the goal.

When a mistake is made, my first question is rarely, "Who messed up?" My first question is, "What allowed this to happen?"

Good employees make mistakes. New employees make mistakes. Experienced employees make mistakes.

I've made mistakes. Every person reading this has made mistakes. If a business depends on everyone being perfect every day, it's only a matter of time before something goes horribly wrong.

The real test isn't whether mistakes happen. It's whether the process is strong enough to catch them, prevent them, or minimize their impact.

When leaders focus solely on the individual, they often miss the opportunity to improve the system. But when they focus on the process, they not only solve today's problem, they reduce the chances of tomorrow's.

Accountability matters. But accountability should be about learning, improving, and building better systems, not simply finding someone to blame.

The best organizations I've dealt with aren't the ones that never make mistakes.

They're the ones that own them, fix them, learn from them, and come back stronger because of them.

I wish more organizations would make this way of thinking part of their culture.

At Guldberg Farms, it's a big part of what "Quality" means. Quality isn't just the feed that leaves our yard. It's the willingness to examine our own processes, own our mistakes, and continuously improve so that the same mistake doesn't happen twice.

Every year while scouting our sunflower field I spot this same ladybug protecting our crop. (Ok, I know it isn't actually the same one, but it's fun to think about it that way.)
It's amazing how many things happen naturally to help turn a tiny seed into an incredible crop. In every field is an entire ecosystem at work. Soil microbes cycling nutrients, earthworms improving soil structure, pollinators moving from flower to flower, and beneficial insects like ladybugs hunting aphids long before most farmers would ever notice them.
Agriculture is often portrayed as a battle against nature, but the reality is that some of the best farming happens when we work with nature instead of against it. Every healthy field is the result of countless partnerships between plants, insects, wildlife, soil, weather, and yes, even farmers. We are all part of the process.
This little ladybug may only be a few millimeters long, but she's doing her part. Just one more reminder that there is a lot more going on in a crop than what meets the eye.
And if all goes according to plan, this tiny sunflower plant will one day help power the feeds we produce at Guldberg Farms.
Sometimes the biggest jobs on the farm are being done by the smallest workers!

When do you think we will harvest this field? Maybe this is a contest in the making??

We don't often share posts here but this one is to good not to.
Good days show a farmer what's possible, bad days teach a farmer what he is made of and the worst of days reminds a farmer of the value of his community.....thankfully we live in one of the best!

No matter how stressed you are, there is support for you.

One thing we hear all the time is, "Do you still have that in stock?"
The reality is many feed suppliers only bring certain products in seasonally, carry limited quantities or have feed that may have been sitting around for months waiting for a buyer.
Not Guldberg Farms.
Whether you need Chick Starter, Duck & Goose Starter, Turkey Starter, Layer Ration, Hog Feed, Lamb Feed, Calf Grower, Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, Prairie Bird Seed or any of our other products in the middle of summer or winter, we've got you covered.
We believe when you need feed, you should be able to get feed. Simple as that.
That's why we work hard to keep our entire product line fresh, available, and ready to go year round.
No seasonal surprises and no wondering if we'll have it when you need it.
Just quality, freshness, and dependability you can count on.

When we started Guldberg Farms Feed, we made a conscious decision to focus on quality, nutrition, consistency, and value first. Not cutting corners. Not chasing the lowest possible price. Not copying anyone. Just producing the best feed we could and standing behind it.
What we've learned is that livestock owners care about results. They want healthy animals, strong performance, dependable service, and feed they can trust. That's exactly what has driven the growth of Guldberg Farms.
To every customer who has chosen to support our family farm and feed mill, thank you. We know you have choices and we appreciate you choosing the quality that is in every bag of our feed. Whether you're raising a few backyard chickens, a 4-H beef project, or managing a full barnyard operation, we truly appreciate the trust you place in us.
We'll keep doing what we've always done: producing quality feed, providing honest service, and earning your business one bag at a time. Not just the first time, but every time.
If you missed getting your order in before we filled up on Saturdays Drop to Strathmore, Calgary, Diamond Valley and High River stay tuned as our next trip is just around the corner! Also don't forget our other Drop locations like Vulcan, Brooks and Drumheller and as akways we are available for farm pickup by appointment 7 days a week!

This year’s pea crop is well underway. Pushing through last year's barley stubble that has been protecting the soil from evaporation, erosion and many other things.
Zero tillage, long crop rotations, regenerative practices, and precision-guided equipment are all part of what makes this possible on a couple inches of top soil and a 6-8 inches of rain.
And you might be surprised just how common these practices have become across the Canadian Prairies.
Modern Canadian agriculture is often far more careful, efficient, and soil-focused than many people realize. Every pass across the field matters. Every decision matters. Every season teaches us something new.
At Guldberg Farms, this is part of the story behind the feed we produce. From the crops we grow, to the way we care for the land, to the bag of feed that ends up in your hands.
