This is my trusted place when I need to board my dogs! Not only do they provide amazing care, they follow my dogs crazy food requirements, make sure they get enrichment and physical exercise multiple times a day and extra loving if needed 🐾

The icing on the cake is that they are Canine Health Canada First Aid certified!! Which gives me that extra peace of mind 🐾

🐾 A LITTLE UPDATE FROM OTTO’S OASIS 🐾

First, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported Otto’s Oasis and trusted us to care for your dogs. ❤️

Since opening, our goal has always been to provide a safe, comfortable and loving place where your dogs are treated like part of our family.

As the costs of operating and providing the level of care we want for every guest continue to increase, we’ve made the difficult decision to adjust our boarding rates.

Effective November 1st, our new rates will be:

🐶 One dog — $40/night
🐶🐶 Two dogs sharing a kennel — $65/night

❤️ Any reservations booked before November 1st will have their current rates honoured — even if your dog’s stay is after November 1st.

We want to give our wonderful customers plenty of notice and make this transition as fair as possible.

This adjustment will help us continue providing the personal attention, comfortable accommodations and quality care that we want every dog staying with us to receive.

We truly appreciate your understanding and your continued support of our small, family-run business. Every booking, recommendation and kind word means so much to us.

✨ Gunners Sunday Shenanigans ✨

I’m a puppy and get so excited that I jump on everyone.

You have tried everything.

🐾 pushing me off.
🐾 Saying “no.”
🐾 Saying “off”
🐾 turning your back

Nothing works. Here is why, because jumping works.

Every time I jump, I get a reaction from you. You either make eye contact, you push me away, you say something, all of that is attention and attention to a puppy or dog is reinforcement.

Us puppies do not care if it is positive attention or negative attention. Attention is attention and jumping = something happens.

Pushing me off is still a party, because you think you are correcting and I think you are playing. Hands on is interaction. How would I know the difference of that and you petting me? I don’t and you just gave me what I wanted.

Saying “no” does nothing, last time I looked I don’t understand English. I understand attention and your voice gave it to me, even when you are mad.

👉👉Here is what actually works:
Stand still, no eye contact, wait and stay silent. I will drop down quickly and when those paws are on the ground mark “yes” and reward “give me the treats” Make sure to reward at the ground. Remember wherever the reward is given the behavior will be repeated.

Do not turn away. Do not speak. Do not push. Just stand there.

Capture the good behaviors. When I choose to keep four on the floor, mark it. Reward it. That is money in the bank.

It takes consistency. Every person, and every time.

🚨 First Aid Friday 🚨

During a fall walk, your dog runs through tall grass and brush.

A few minutes later, they’re squinting, tearing and pawing at one eye.

What should you do?

A - Force the eyelids open and remove whatever you can find

B - Apply leftover eye drops from a previous infection

C - Prevent rubbing, keep your dog calm and contact a veterinarian promptly

D - Wait overnight to see whether the eye looks better

✨ Willow’s Wisdom Wednesday ✨

Well last night was kinda smelly 🦨

It was last p*e break before bed, and I found what I thought was a fun new friend!!

My new friend wasn’t fun at all!!!

My friend got scared and sprayed stinky stuff all over my face!!

It stung my eyes, went into my mouth and nose!! I was a mess!!

I ran to momma for help shaking my head vigorously. She sprung into action as she new exactly what to do… we talk about it all the time in our 1st Aid classes.

So here’s a picture of me at 11:30 at night drying off!! Getting skunk smell off takes patience and time!!

Now the question is…. Do I still get to sleep in the big bed with momma? Do we trust all the stink is gone and we are just smelling the after effects in the air?

Any way if it’s black and white stay away them 🦨’s are no joke!!

🍁 THE SEPTEMBER RESET 🍁
🍁 FOR YOUR DOG 🍁

September brings routines back, making it a great time for a quick canine health reset.

Add these five things to this week’s list:

🐾 Check that identification tags are readable and contact information is current

🐾 Review medications and discard expired products according to your pharmacy or veterinarian’s instructions

🐾 Refresh your pet first aid kit and replace anything that has been used or has expired

🐾 Book overdue veterinary, dental or grooming appointments

🐾 Take two quiet minutes to look and feel for anything new—lumps, sore areas, skin changes or changes in body condition

Most importantly, pay attention to what is normal for your dog.

Their appetite. Energy. Movement. Breathing. Bathroom habits. Behavior.

Recognizing an emergency often begins with recognizing that something simply isn’t right.

🥳🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLOW 🎉🥳

Today Willow turns 4, honestly I don’t know where the time went as it feels like I just brought her home!! She’s more than “just a dog” she’s been by my side training every day, she’s my partner in crime, and my heart dog 🐾🎂🎉🥳

Willow- is our official Training Officer acting as a mentor and guide to help dogs and guardians in training apply knowledge in practical scenarios.

She works hard in all aspects from sitting in on the many training courses I take, so we stay up to date on the lasting training techniques, and as a demonstration dog for all dog training classes and 1st aid classes I hold.

She has a natural instinct on people’s emotions and feelings, and uses that instinct as a Therapy dog, sometimes even when it’s on the fly…. We can be out in the community and she will gravitate to someone who needs a little extra love.💕

In her downtime she enjoys off leash walks in the forest, swimming in a lake or creek, napping in the sun on the patio and cuddling on the couch. 💦🌲☀️🛋️
