🐾 Willow’s Wisdom Wednesday 🐾

Okay, dog people...

We want your dog's government name...

And then the absolutely ridiculous name you actually call them. 😂

I’ll go first:

🐶 Actual name: Willow

What I get called:

Pretty Girl
Girly
My girl
Drop it

… none of which I was named 🤣

My brother:

🦮 Actual name:Gunner

What he gets called:

Gun Gun
My boy
Little buddy
Leave it
..none of which he was named. 😂

👇 Your turn.

Dog's actual name + most unhinged nickname.

We have a feeling the comments are going to be GOOD. 👀

Is it aging—or is something changing?

Slower walks.

More sleep.

Hesitation before using the stairs.

A little less patience when being touched.

Changes in senior dogs are often subtle, gradual and easy to dismiss as “just getting older.” But noticing what has changed from your dog’s usual baseline can help you respond sooner and support them more comfortably.

A brand-new Canine Health Canada program is coming in September —created to help dog lovers recognize changes, adapt daily care and feel more prepared for the years ahead. 🐾

✨ Gunner’s Sunday Shenanigans ✨

Nope we didn’t forget Gunner’s spotlight!!!We have been busy rolling out our fall schedule though so have a look at our page and all the fun things we have planned for you 🐾

🐸 Guess what? I have a new friend… it’s name is HOPPER and has greeted us at the door every night for the last week.

🧠 I am told this is a great training session as I am still learning “Leave it” so I give it a sniff …. It smells funny and I just look and watch as it hops around.

Willow makes sure I don’t lick it by standing guard, apparently she licked one last year and they don’t taste good… hmmm 🤔

Anyway, once we are done looking 👀 we do our business and say good night to Hopper.

Train, Treat and Repeat 🐾 sometimes training happens at the most random times with the most random things. We always take the opportunity when it arises.

Have a wonderful week my friends 🐶

🚨First Aid Friday 🚨

Breed Feature: The loveable Bulldog!

Those wrinkles. That waddle. That snort.

It's easy to see why Bulldogs steal so many hearts.

But summer can be especially tough on them, as a brachycephalic breed.

Because of their shortened airways, Bulldogs have a much harder time cooling themselves than many other breeds. Even a short walk on a warm day or an enthusiastic game of fetch can become too much.

Keep an eye out for:

🥵 Heavy or noisy panting
😴 Slowing down sooner than usual
💙 Pale or bluish gums (this is an emergency)
🚨 Difficulty breathing or collapse (also an emergency)

A few ways to help your Bulldog enjoy summer safely:

✔ Walk early in the morning or later in the evening when temps are cooler
✔ Keep exercise short when temperatures climb
✔ Bring fresh water everywhere you go
✔ Make shade and air conditioning your best friends
✔ Never assume they'll "tell you" when they've had enough

One of the hardest things about heat-related emergencies is that they can escalate quickly.

Sometimes the safest adventure is the one that ends a little early.

❤️ Bulldog owners—tell us about your snorting, snoozing, stubborn best friend in the comments!

🐾 Willow’s Wisdom Wednesday 🐾

📣 I’m SO EXCITED for our NEW PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

We’ve got something NEW from Canine Health Canada… and we are busy learning the new course so both dogs and their owners will benefit ❤️

Some of you have been asking for this information and for the ability to have meaningful discussions on this subject. Coming this fall 🍁🍂 we are proud to present…… 🥁 roll

✨SENIOR CANINE HEALTH, WELLNESS & FIRST AID✨

Helping dogs live better, longer.

We all want our dogs to live longer and healthier — and their needs change dramatically as they age.

Senior dog owners want to know:
🐾 Is this normal aging… or something I should be worried about?
🐾 Is my dog in pain?
🐾 Why has their behavior or sleep changed?
🐾 How can I help them stay mobile and comfortable?
🐾 What changes should I be watching for?
🐾 How do emergencies look different in an older dog?
🐾 And perhaps the hardest question of all — how do I know when their quality of life is changing?

This new program will give you the tools required to help you confidently navigate the senior years.

The program will include:
🐶 Understanding the aging canine body
❤️ Knowing your senior dog's normal & recognizing early changes
🦴 Mobility, arthritis & maintaining function
🩺 Pain recognition
🧠 Cognitive decline & behavioral changes
👀 Vision, hearing & sensory changes
🥩 Nutrition, hydration & body condition
💊 Medication awareness & safety
🏡 Creating a senior-friendly home
🚶 Exercise, enrichment & maintaining quality of life
🚨 Senior-specific emergencies & first aid considerations
🌈 Quality-of-life assessment & end-of-life planning

Along with your Senior Canine Health, Wellness and 1st Aid manual you will also receive a Senior Dog Health Journal that you can use to track your dog's baseline, mobility, appetite, medications, behavior, sleep, bathroom habits and quality-of-life changes over time.

This is a FIRST🥇in Canada type of course, it will be approximately 4 hours long and is Veterinary approved!!! This isn't simply another first aid course. It's an opportunity to support dogs and their people through one of the most important — and sometimes most difficult — stages of their lives.
