WE HAVE BIG NEWS… 🎉🐾

Ruff Start Animal Rescue is officially a REGISTERED CHARITY in Canada!! ❤️

This is something we have worked incredibly hard toward, and we are beyond excited for what this means for the future of our rescue. Becoming an official charity opens the door to even bigger opportunities to help dogs in need, expand our programs, grow our impact, and save more lives than ever before.

And yes… we can now officially issue tax receipts for eligible donations! 🎉

Every dog we rescue, every medical case we take on, every sanctuary pup we continue to care for — it is all possible because of the support of this amazing community. Not because she's loud. Not because she's demanding.

But because she's simply... perfect. ❤️

At around 7 years old, Nika has mastered the art of being the ideal companion. She's calm, gentle, easygoing, and happiest spending her days by your side. Whether you're heading out for a walk, relaxing on the couch, or simply going about your day, Nika is content just being part of it.

This adorable duo is looking for a foster to adopt home!

🐾❤️ These two tiny souls are the definition of bonded. Wherever one goes, the other follows — and after everything they’ve been through together, we can’t imagine separating them.

At 6 and 7 years old, Cera and Ducky are officially ready to find a foster-to-adopt home together. Ducky is the sweetest little gentleman. Quiet, gentle, and unbelievably soft-hearted, he simply wants to be close to his people. His favorite thing is being cuddled up in your arms outside while he watches the world go by. Despite living with IVDD and having some mobility challenges, Ducky has never once acted like he’s in pain. In true chi fashion, he still tries to zip around the yard and be part of absolutely everything happening around him. He settles beautifully in his crate and is just such an easy little companion to love. Then there’s Cera — the zesty half of the duo 😅 She’s got that classic fierce chihuahua spirit wrapped up in the softest little body. She will dramatically paw you if you stop petting her before she’s decided you’re done, and she keeps a loving, protective eye on her beloved Ducky at all times. She enjoys walks and little adventures (which are also helping with her weight loss journey 💪), and she’s not afraid to give a bark or grumble if she has opinions about something.

Together, they are incredibly easy dogs to have around. Total snuggle bugs. They settle beautifully into family life, adore being cozy, and have been wonderful with other dogs. They have shown some caution around very young children and “pointy little fingers,” so a home with older, respectful kids — or an adult-only home — would be ideal for them.

These two don’t need perfection. They just need someone willing to open their heart to a bonded pair who still have so much love left to give. If you’ve ever dreamed of having two little shadows following you around the house, this might just be your pair ❤️

Amber is a beautiful little soul looking for her forever family. At just 12lbs and approximately 2 years old, she’s the perfect mix of playful energy and devoted companionship.

Once Amber settles into her home environment, her sweet personality shines. She becomes the happiest little shadow — following her people around, curling up beside them under blankets, and standing on her back legs to gently hold your hands when she wants affection. It’s impossible not to fall in love with her.

Amber absolutely adores playing and running in the yard. Zoomies are one of her greatest joys, and she would thrive in a home with another playful dog who can match her energy and help her continue building confidence. She loves being part of the pack and truly blossoms with canine companionship.

She’s also a smart girl who already knows commands like “come,” “quiet,” and “no,” and she’s doing wonderfully with her house training. She enjoys car rides, walks, toys, and cozy evenings snuggled beside her people.

Like many sensitive dogs, Amber can feel nervous in new situations and around unfamiliar people or loud traffic. She’s looking for a patient, understanding family who will give her the time she needs to feel secure. In return, she will give you endless loyalty, affection, and companionship.

We have one more little one arriving on June 6th who will require a loving foster home to land in ♥️ This is Spot! He’s around 3 or 4 years old. He has a little deformity from an old injury in one of his back legs but he still uses it. He loves to cuddle and is just adorable! 🥰 If you are interested in fostering Spot:
