🐱 Fluffy… or a little TOO fluffy? 😂

It can be surprisingly difficult to tell whether your cat is at an ideal weight — especially underneath all that fur!

At a healthy body condition:

🐾 You should be able to feel the ribs without pressing hard
🐾 There should be a visible waist when looking from above
🐾 The abdomen should tuck upward slightly when viewed from the side

And remember: the number on the scale doesn't tell the whole story. Body condition matters too!

🍄🐕 It's mushroom season!

With cooler temperatures and fall moisture, mushrooms can start popping up in yards, parks and along walking trails.

While many mushrooms are harmless, some can be toxic — and it can be extremely difficult to tell the difference just by looking at them.

🐾 Check your yard regularly
🐾 Don't let pets eat wild mushrooms
🐾 Keep dogs close when exploring unfamiliar areas
🐾 If you think your pet ate a mushroom, contact a veterinarian right away

📸 Helpful tip: If it's safe to do so, take photos of the mushroom from several angles and bring a sample with you. This may help with identification.

Curious noses get into everything — especially when they're not supposed to! 😂

🦷 Dental Month is coming! 🐾

September is Dental Month at Devonian Veterinary Clinic!

Did you know dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in both dogs AND cats? Bad breath, tartar and red gums aren't just cosmetic — dental disease can cause pain, infection and eventually lead to tooth loss.

Throughout September, we'll be sharing tips on keeping your pet's mouth healthy, signs of dental disease to watch for, and some behind-the-scenes dental content. 🐶🐱

🎒 Back to School Means Big Changes for Your Pet! 🐾

As the kids get ready to head back to school and summer schedules come to an end, your pet may notice the change too!

Some pets adjust quickly, while others can experience stress or separation anxiety when the house suddenly becomes much quieter.

Here are a few ways to help make the transition easier:

🐶 Stick to a consistent feeding and walking schedule.
🧩 Leave puzzle toys or enrichment activities to keep them busy.
🚶 Give your pet plenty of exercise before everyone leaves for the day.
🏡 Ease back into the routine gradually if possible.
💙 Be patient—some pets need a little extra time to adjust.

Watch for signs of stress, including:
• Excessive barking or meowing
• Destructive behavior
• House soiling
• Pacing or restlessness
• Changes in appetite

If your pet is having a difficult time adjusting, we're happy to help. There are many strategies—and sometimes medications—that can make the transition much easier.

💔 In Loving Memory of Cookie 💔

It is with very heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved clinic cat, Cookie.

After a short battle with kidney disease, we had to make the difficult decision to let her go peacefully.

Cookie was truly one of a kind. She loved Temptations treats, lounging around the clinic like she owned the place (because, really, she did), and perhaps most memorably trying to fight angry cats who came into the clinic. 😂 Apparently Cookie believed that if a cat was already mad, the best course of action was to make it personal.

Cookie is now in heaven, eating all the treats she wants, going crazy on catnip filled chairs and signing herself up for Fight Club.

The clinic won't be the same without her little face, her big personality, and her questionable conflict-resolution skills.

Rest easy, Cookie. 🌈🐾
We hope the Temptations are unlimited and the opponents are worthy.

You were so very loved, and you will be so very missed. ❤️
