Cooler weather doesn’t mean heartworm risk is over!

Even though temperatures may be starting to drop, mosquitoes can still be active—and heartworm disease is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. 🦟

💊 Heartworm prevention is recommended once a month from June through November in Ontario, following the typical heartworm season.

Did you know? Heartworm prevention works retroactively, helping prevent heartworm from developing from mosquito bites your pet may have received the previous month.

🐶 Dogs: Heartworm is commonly discussed in dogs, but they aren’t the only pets at risk.

🐱 Cats: Cats can also develop heartworm disease, which is why prevention is important for them too.

🌡️ If we have an unusually warm fall, or if you’re travelling somewhere warm with your pet, your veterinarian may recommend additional prevention.

Please allow 24-48 hours for medication refills. This gives us the time to make sure we have your pets medication in, have it approved by our doctors and ensure that your pet is getting the correct medication.

We will give you a call once your medication is ready to be picked up in clinic.

We're cruising into the last long weekend of the summer!

We will be closed Monday, September 7th for Labor Day and we will be open again Tuesday, September 8th from 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Bruce did an amazing job while donating blood for the first time today. Thank you to everyone who made our first blood donor clinic a success - you’ve made a big difference in the lives of many dogs. We look forward to hosting again in the future. 🐾🐶

We are happy to announce that we are hosting a rabies vaccine clinic on Saturday, October 3rd right here at Big Creek Veterinary Hospital. It will be running from 9:00am - 11:00am. 💉

The cost is $40 if you pre-register or $50 at the door - cash only. You can register through Purrfect Companions with the info below.

All proceeds go to Purrfect Companions Cat Rescue, here in Delhi. 🐱

This is a great way to help support a local rescue and we look forward to seeing you! 🐈

Join us in welcoming Amber to Big Creek Veterinary Hospital for her externship.

Amber is finishing her program at Ridgetown, where she adopted her beagle Patti, to become a veterinary technician. We have had the pleasure of working with her previously and know she will be a great asset to our team while she continues to work towards her goals.

You may see her around the clinic, working closely with our doctors and other technicians.
