Penhorn Animal Hospital

Penhorn Animal Hospital Located at 569 Portland Street Unit 140 in Penhorn Plaza, Penhorn Animal Hospital So what exactly is urgent care? That's where we come in!
(1)

Urgent care is provided for illness or injuries which require prompt, same day attention but are not necessarily of a life or death nature. Covid -19 created a steep increase in pet ownership - this, combined with a worldwide shortage of veterinarians and support staff, has illustrated a concerning gap in urgent available veterinary care. Many hospitals have full appointments providing daily preve

ntive care ( vaccines, wellness exams, dietary consults, and all of the things that go into keeping your pet happy and healthy) and accessing an urgent visit can be a challenge. At Penhorn Animal Hospital, we work with your family veterinary team to ensure that your pet receives fast, same day appointments for conditions that just can't wait. We are excited to launch this next step in excellent veterinary service!

IT'S OUR ANNIVERSARY!!! 4 years ago today, Penhorn Animal Hospital opened it's doors for the very first time. Offering urgent services, our hospital filled a gap in veterinary care which allowed owners to access same day appointments for their pets - for those times when they needed to be seen but it was not a life or death emergency.

Soon, however, we listened to demand and expanded to also provide preventative veterinary medicine - this meant clients that wished to stay with us could also use our hospital as their primary care facility. So now it's the best of both worlds!

Lots of hard work, treats from Momma Lamey, laughs and yes, some tears have gone into the past 4 years and we wouldn't have it any other way ❤️ Happy Anniversary to us!

Who would like to take a guess ...does Dr Keizer like kittens?

Hank came to Penhorn Animal Hospital with nasal discharge, and Dr Keizer made sure he was feeling all the love while treating him. Who could resist that face?

Staff pets need urgent care too! Beatrice came to Penhorn Animal Hospital with acute lameness in her left hind leg.

Beatrice has a medical condition that makes her unable to use monthly tick prevention, so the first step was a blood test to rule out Lyme disease. That was negative, so xrays were next, which confirmed that nothing was broken or displaced. That means the best course of action is treating symptomatically - medication for pain and inflammation along with instructions for strict rest ( "Strict rest" is something Bea feels is open to interpretation.) Beatrice doesn't stop for much but she does want to stay still long enough to say thank you to Dr Lamey!

Ollie came to Penhorn Animal Hospital with limping, which can be one of the symptoms of Lyme disease.

Swollen joints, fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, generally feeling unwell and limping - these can all be indicators of Lyme disease. Not all symptoms are always present in all dogs - sometimes it's just one ( or even none at all.)

A TruRapid test was performed, which requires a small blood sample to check for 4 possible diseases. While Ollie's test was negative for 3, it came back positive for Lyme.

Treatment includes antibiotics, anti inflammatories and some extra TLC, which hopefully will have this handsome boy feeling better soon ❤️
