Cold weather is coming, help keep cats safe! ❄️🐱
As the temperatures drop, cats and kittens may start looking for warm, sheltered places to escape the cold. This is especially important for stray and outdoor cats who spend most of their time outside! 🫶
🚗 Before starting your car, check under the hood!
Cats and kittens may crawl into or under vehicles to take advantage of the engine's warmth. Before you start your vehicle, give the hood a gentle tap and check around your car to give any hidden kitty a chance to safely get out.
🏠 Provide a warm, dry shelter
If you know of a stray or outdoor cat, consider providing a safe, insulated shelter in a protected area. Even a small, dry space away from wind and moisture can make a big difference.
🥣 Keep food and water available
Outdoor cats may need extra calories during colder months. Make sure fresh water is available and check regularly to ensure it hasn’t frozen.
🐾 Keep your own cats indoors whenever possible
Even cats who normally enjoy spending time outside can be at greater risk during cold weather. Kittens, senior cats, and cats with health conditions are especially vulnerable. ❤️
If you’re concerned about a stray cat contact your local shelter or post about the cat on your local lost and found pages. Of course, if the cat is unwell contact your vet for advice! 🩺❤️
