Calling all water-loving dogs — Pooch-a-Poolooza is this Saturday, August 29. 🐕💦

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Courtenay Outdoor Pool will be open to dogs for an end-of-season swim.

Admission is $5 per dog, with all proceeds donated to BC SPCA Comox Valley & District

Please bring proof of rabies vaccination for your dog.

We’re excited to be supporting this pawsome event! 🩺🫶 Our Van Isle Veterinary Hospital team will be on-site to:
✅ Check rabies vaccination status
✅ Help with basic first aid if needed
✅ Cheer on all the water-loving pups! 🐕💙

Dear Clients & Community,

We want to share an important rabies update with you! A bat located in the Willow Point area on July 24th tested positive for rabies. Yesterday, we were notified that a bat found in Courtenay also tested positive for rabies.

With rabies-positive bats being identified in our local communities, we want to remind everyone about the importance of protecting your pets. 🐶🐱💉

Rabies is a serious and potentially fatal disease that can affect both animals and people. While rabies is uncommon in B.C., bats are the primary source of rabies in our province. Vaccination is one of the most important ways you can help protect your pet if they are ever exposed. ❤️🐾

🩺 Is your pet’s rabies vaccine up to date?

If you’re unsure when your pet was last vaccinated, or if they have never received a rabies vaccine, please reach out to our team. We’d be happy to review their records and help ensure they’re protected. ❤️

⚠️ If your pet encounters a bat:
• Keep your pet away from the bat.
• Do not handle the bat with your bare hands.
• Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible for guidance.
• If you or your pet have had direct contact with a bat, seek appropriate medical/veterinary advice promptly.

Dead bats that have NOT been in direct contact with humans or pets can be reported to the B.C. Community Bat Program at 1-855-922-2287 or [email protected].

UPDATE: our power is on but our phones are down and we currently have no wifi!! ✨🐾 We will keep you all posted! 🫶

Our hospital power is out!! 🔋🔌

Our phone lines and computers are limited, but we are OPEN and seeing patients. 🫶 We have emergency lights and our hospital equipment can work without electricity!
