Residents are advised to use extra caution in the Bevan Road area after a bear injured a person who was walking an unleashed dog in Cumberland.

The Conservation Officer Service contacted the Village of Cumberland to advise of the incident and requested that this notice be disseminated. Residents and visitors are reminded that bears may act defensively when startled, especially when dogs are nearby.

WildSafeBC reminds residents that dogs can increase the risk of conflict with bears, particularly when dogs are off leash or not under control. Dogs should be kept leashed and under control at all times when walking in areas where wildlife may be present.

Please take the following precautions:

🐕Keep dogs leashed and close to you.
🔊Make noise while walking, especially near blind corners, dense vegetation, or low-visibility areas.
🥾Travel in groups when possible.
Carry bear spray, keep it accessible, and know how to use it.
🐻Watch for signs of bear activity, including fresh s**t, tracks, overturned logs, or feeding areas.

If you encounter a bear, stay calm, back away slowly, and give the bear plenty of space. Never approach, feed, or attempt to haze a bear.

Report aggressive bear behaviour or human-wildlife conflicts to the Conservation Officer Service 24-hour RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.

News update: The tub is plumbed in and we are good to go! Now able to take dogs again on weekdays. Currently still taking only people/dogs I have seen before. Hi everyone,
A new update for you!
I have been working Saturdays and Sundays out of the Studio 79 shop in the SharKare building. Ezra has been letting me use her space on weekends while she has days off. I am still working on trying to get my own tub plumbed into the front part of the shop, and once this is accomplished, I will have more leeway for appointment slots.
I really appreciate everyone's patience during this transition. My sister passed away two days after I got back to Canada, so everything has been in a bit of a shemozzle (is that a word?)
I am working my way through my list of people who want to come in, and if I haven't contacted you yet, all of this is why, and I apologize for the delay. Feel free to give me a nudge if you are one of these people. For now, I can take dogs that I have groomed before or that are new dogs to current clients, and once these are all booked in I will see what spaces might be left for anyone new.

Hi everyone! I am back in Canada (got home last night) after after a grueling 2 days of travel. I have a list of people who are waiting for appointments, and will msg everyone on that list asap. I am currently only able to work on Saturdays and Sundays until I can organise getting my tub installed and an electrical cable moved over in the shop. I also have a priority with a family member who is at the end part of her life, (over in Powell River 😞) and may be a little side-tracked/distracted, but I will try to contact everyone in a timely manner, and hopefully in the next couple of weeks will be set up again for working on weekdays. Thank you all for your patience through this transition, and I will do my best to make it as smooth as possible. I am looking forward to seeing you all again! Leela 🐾

News update for all who are interested/have been waiting. I will be back in Canada at the end of May (May 29), and plans are in the works to share space with Ezra at Studio 79, where I was last year in the Shar-Kare building at the bottom of Mission Hill. I will need to have my bathtub installed and plumbed in, which may take a little time as I figure out who can do that for me and when. But in the meantime I will be busy setting up my share of the space, and Ezra has kindly said that until my tub is set up I can once again use her portion on weekends when she is not working. So in June to begin with, I will be working Saturdays and Sundays in her space. After that I will be working about 20 hours a week, so spaces will be limited, and preference will be given to existing clients (meaning dogs that have seen me before). Anyone who wants to be on that list can send me messages either on here or on sms/text or WhatsApp at (250) 702-3345 Those who have already contacted me are already on the list. 😊Stay tuned for updates. 😊🐶🐾
