This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling especially grateful for the clients who make our work meaningful.

We’re grateful for the people who trust our team, communicate openly, ask questions, and work alongside us to make medical decisions for their pets.

We’re grateful for the clients who understand that veterinary medicine is a ⭐partnership⭐. Sometimes that means celebrating good news together, and sometimes it means having difficult conversations, weighing options, or navigating uncertainty. Through all of it, kindness, empathy, communication, and mutual respect make all the difference.

We’re especially thankful for those who approach challenging moments with understanding and recognize that behind every appointment, phone call, email, and conversation is a team of people who genuinely care about their patients and the families who love them.

Please note - Island Tides will be closed on Wednesday September 30 to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We are all encouraged to wear orange and participate in the Comox Valley Spirit Walk on September 30 at 10am, starting at Lewis Park. This event is hosted by our local governing bodies to raise awareness and honour those who were impacted by Residential Schools in Canada.

Alabama joined our team a few months ago and has been an incredibly valuable member of our CCR and Assistant teams.

She has two cats (who she adores very much!) and credits her grandma and dad for inspiring her to work in the veterinary industry.

A veterinary clinic in Campbell River had a bat test positive for Rabies virus recently. Although the number of bats that carry Rabies has not been on the rise, it is very important to remain aware that bats do carry the deadly virus.

To keep yourself and others safe:

- ensure your pets' Rabies vaccines are up to date.

- never handle a bat.

- if your pet comes in contact with a bat, contact your veterinarian for guidance.

- if you are in contact with a bat, please contact your local health authority.

⚠️ A case of rabies has been confirmed locally.

While rabies in our area is uncommon, this is an important reminder to make sure your pets are protected.

💉 Check that your pet’s rabies vaccination is up to date.

🦇 If you find a bat, do not touch it with bare hands and keep pets away from it once discovered.

⚠️ If your pet catches, mouths, is bitten or scratched by, or has any other direct contact with a bat, contact your veterinarian immediately — even if you don't see an obvious wound.

If you're unsure whether your pet's rabies vaccination is current, give us a call and we can check their records.

On ⭐ Wednesday August 19, 2026 ⭐ Island Tides will be closing early at 12pm for a little time away so we can come back even better!

We’re taking the afternoon off on August 19 for a team-building event. We’ll be spending some time connecting as a team, sharing ideas, and making plans for how we can continue to improve the experience for our clients and the pets we care for.

Thanks for your understanding while our team takes some time to learn, grow, and have a little fun together!
