To conquer loose-leash walking, we need to take it one step at a time, and the very first one is the equipment you use.

Maren Bruun of Paw In Hand shares these three essentials to enjoying a loose-leash walk with your dog.

1️⃣Well-fitted harness: that is comfortable for the dog to wear.
2️⃣Long leash: Remember that it is important that you can safely and effectively handle it.
3️⃣Treat pouch with lots of treats: because there are plenty of things that compete for your attention!

We talk all about loose-leash walking at https://animalkind.ca/all-about-leash-walking/

On this , our hearts are with the incredible students of the Eco Paw Prints Club.
They created their own club, rolled up their sleeves, and held two bottle‑drive fundraisers for the animals — raising $173.20 and $149.80 to help the animals.

Their compassion and commitment remind us how powerful young voices can be.
Thank you, Eco Paw Prints Club, for leading with kindness. 🐾💖

🪺 It’s baby season for our wild neighbours!

🦆 It is this time of year when you may see families of geese and ducks while out on your neighbourhood walks, with babies following close behind mom and dad. It can be a difficult time for new parents, as they head out from the safety of their nest to nearby ponds and lakes with their curious ducklings and goslings.

Have you ever wondered how to help these cute little families? Learn more about how to help ducklings and goslings stay safe this spring:

✨ : Poppy's Forever Family! ✨

Poppy’s adopter sent us the sweetest update — he’s been home almost two months and is already part of the family routine. He even joins their morning roll call from his breakfast salad (usually as a blur because he’s so fast!).

We were told he’s very clear about his favourites: yes to peppers, cilantro, tomatoes, and romaine… no to zucchini and celery. He also loves homemade hay + applesauce cookies and being hand‑fed his hay “flowers.”

The sweetest part? The adopter’s mom, who was nervous at first, now brings him hay flowers, feeds him Thursday‑night salads, and even bought him an Easter activity wall. She told the family she loves him — and Poppy follows her everywhere for treats.

He’s happy, cherished, and so loved — and we’re grateful to our amazing supporters, community, and adopters who make stories like Poppy’s possible. 💛🐹🌿

Cats are often seen as independent pets who will entertain themselves… but the indoor environment can be a monotonous one...

Without enough stimulation, cats can become frustrated or stressed. This may show up as:
➡️ knocking things over
➡️ scratching furniture
➡️ excessive vocalizing
➡️ mood swings or aggression
➡️ pacing or attention-seeking behaviour

Puzzle feeders are a simple way to help keep cats mentally and physically engaged by encouraging natural hunting and foraging behaviours while also making mealtime more enriching and fun!

The key? Start slow and make it a positive experience 💙

🐻💚🏡 Have you seen a bear in your neighbourhood this spring?
Bears are waking up from hibernation across B.C., and they are hungry after their winter hibernation! As bears are looking for food and raising their cubs, it’s important to be familiar with bear-smart practices to keep communities safe. This can mean keeping pets on leash, or removing bear attractants, like garbage or bird feeders.

Meet Austen, a young entrepreneur with a magnetic idea and an even bigger heart! For his school project, he created and sold his own magnetic products — then donated $10 from the proceeds to help the animals. 🐾
That’s creativity and compassion in perfect harmony.
Way to go, Austen — kindness really sticks! 💛✨
