A few weeks ago Moses officially headed off to Alberta to start his new adventure! 🏡🐶

It’s always a little bittersweet saying goodbye to a dog and the owners who has spent time with us, but we’re so happy knowing this is a good change for Moses and his humans. Glad he has lots of fur so he can enjoy the walks in Alberta ❤️

We’re going to miss this handsome boy and his family, but we’re excited for all the adventures ahead of them!

Good luck in the big city. Please be a good boy for your humans and dont forget to tell your mom less leash on your walks🐾❤️😁

🐾 Sometimes the biggest wins are the quiet ones. ❤️

Today, this beautiful rescue girl made a little breakthrough that might not look like much to everyone else…

She chose to come over and lay down beside me.

No asking. No pressure. No commands.

She simply decided that being close to me felt safe enough. 🥹

When a dog is learning to trust, these are the moments that matter. The obedience, leash work and structure are important, but so is building that relationship and showing them that they can relax, make good choices and feel safe with you.

For her, lying beside me might seem like a small thing.

For me, it's huge. ❤️

One little choice at a time, she's learning that she doesn't have to navigate everything on her own.

And this is exactly why I love what I do. 🐾

🐾 A Fresh Start Starts With Training 🐾

This pretty little girl has arrived at Urban K9 for a Board & Train through a local rescue pawsitforward. ❤️

Rescue dogs can come with all kinds of experiences and challenges. Sometimes they simply need someone to slow things down, give them structure, teach them how to navigate the world, and show them that life can be predictable and safe.

Over the next little while, we’ll be working on the skills that will help her succeed in her future home — obedience, leash skills, impulse control, engagement, calmness and, most importantly, learning how to make good choices.

Our goal isn't just a dog who listens while she is here. It's to help build the skills and confidence she needs to succeed after she leaves us and finds her forever home. 🏡❤️

We’re always happy to support our local rescues and play a small part in giving these dogs the best possible chance at a successful adoption.

🌫️🐾 **SMOKE OUTSIDE? GIVE YOUR DOG A JOB INSIDE!**

When the air quality is poor, outdoor walks and playtime may need to be cut short — but that doesn't mean your dog has to spend the day staring at you wondering when we're going outside! 😂

Dogs need **mental stimulation** too, and this is a great time to put those brains to work. 🧠🐶

Try:

🐾 **Find It Games** – Hide treats around one room and let your dog use their nose to find them.

🦴 **Long-Lasting Chews** – Give them something appropriate to work on while you relax.

🎾 **Woof Ball Fun** – Stuff it with food or treats and let your dog figure out how to get them out.

🎓 **Training Sessions** – Spend 5–10 minutes working on place, down-stay, recall, leash skills around the house or other obedience exercises.

You don't need to exhaust your dog physically to have a tired dog. **A little brain work can go a long way!**

And remember — when the smoke is heavy, protecting your dog's lungs is more important than getting that usual walk in. 🌫️❤️

**Stay inside. Stay safe. And make it a training day!**

🚨 **OKAY… I’M SCREAMING THIS FROM THE TOP OF MY LUNGS: CRATE TRAIN YOUR DOG.** 🚨

Seriously. **Please start now.**

With another big fire breaking out, it’s a good reminder that emergencies don’t wait until our dogs are ready.

Crate training your dog is one of the best things you can do for them — and not because you’re going to leave them in a crate all day.

A properly crate-trained dog learns that their crate is a **safe, familiar place** to relax.

And when an emergency happens?
🔥 Evacuation
🏠 Temporary housing
🚗 A long car ride
🏥 A vet visit (they do not let your dog run around in the back)
🏨 Staying somewhere unfamiliar
🐾 Being around lots of other people and animals

…the last thing you want is to introduce a crate for the **first time while your dog is already scared, stressed and confused.**

Imagine being evacuated from your home, surrounded by unfamiliar sounds, smells and people — and then being put into a crate you've never seen before. That's a LOT for a dog to handle.

But if your dog already knows, *“This is my safe place,”* you've taken one more piece of stress out of an already stressful situation.

**Don't wait for the emergency to start crate training. Start when life is calm.** ❤️🐾

Make the crate positive. Feed meals in it. Give special chews in it. Practice short periods. Build duration gradually. Let your dog learn that the crate isn't something to fear — it's somewhere they can settle.

And please… **don't assume your dog will “just be fine” in a crate because they're normally an easygoing dog.**

Prepare BEFORE you need to.

Your future self — and your dog — will thank you.

When the air quality is poor, the best place for your dog is **inside**. 🌫️🐶

But if your dog is used to lots of outdoor exercise, being stuck inside can leave them bored, restless and looking for trouble!

That’s where a little **mental enrichment** can help. 🧠🐾
