Whether you're out for a drive in the country or stopping to take photos, please remember that fields, barns, and farmyards are someone's workplace and home.

Entering a farm without permission can pose risks to animal health, crop production, farm biosecurity, and personal safety.

If you'd like to visit a farm, look for opportunities that welcome visitors through agritourism or always ask permission before entering.

Respect the farm. Respect the farmer.

Zazou is off to her new home today.

We had a lovely saturday morning at QSLB dressage at The Balanced Ride.

Ashley and CC stepped back into the dressage ring after a year of mostly hunter shows and their work paid off. Both were much more relaxed and put in two workmanship tests bringing home a 2nd in Intro A and a 3rd in Intro B.

Katie took Andrea Wernham's gelding Archie to his first show and first off property excursion. While Archie was excited and pretty sure he was the fastest of all, he held it together for two tests, pinning 3rd in Intro A and 4th in Into B.

Katie and Zazou took on Training 1, where Zazou tried her heart out to stay focused in a new environment. This mare shows so much talent, and we can't wait to see her continue to develop. She brought home a 3rd.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of things your horse does not know, and does not care about:

• What the score was

• What level they’re showing

• What you paid for them

• What your goals are

• What board costs

• What color your saddle pad is

• Whether this is a schooling show, a national show, or the Olympics

• Whether they’re supposed to be the next superstar

And now… some things they do know:

• Whether they feel safe

• Whether their equipment fits well

• Whether their basic needs (food, freedom, friends) are fulfilled

• Whether their work makes sense to them

• Whether their body feels good

• Whether they understand the conversation

• Whether they trust the person asking the questions

I think that’s worth remembering from time to time.

Because horses have a funny way of cutting through all the noise and reminding us what actually matters.
