This mild winter makes for healthy horse keeping. The girls group with Scottie the wildie showing them the best spots to find old grass still. They come around the yard for some hay, minerals and water once a day.

To all the riders who care for the well being of the horses. In competitions if a horse shows blood in his mouth the rider is disqualified, they now want to make this rule less strict.

At the Legerete Clinic with Veronika Bühn in Abbotsford with my 6 year old Draft cross Shaya. Her first clinic started out with basic emergency one rein stop practices lol but luckily she settled in and started to participate and pay attention nicely.
I love Veronika's teaching and her knowledgeable eye to help me bring Shaya into a good balance right from the start.
Thank you Katrina for organising the clinic!
It was lovely and inspiring to meet up with everyone again 🥰

4.5 year old QH x Belgium draft mare

4 months under saddle. Walk, trot in the arena, leg yield, canter on the trail up hills. Longes, ties, loads well good ground work.

She is a lively ride, responsive and eager to learn. Also sensitive and can be strong minded, still green and needs someone with young horse experience who appreciates mares.

Great all around horse, will be a great trail and mountain horse.

The last clinic of 2025 was another lovely weekend filled with relaxed and responsive horses and keen ladies.
The theory was on the riders seat this time which is always a good refresher.

September 19-21st riding clinic in Clinton.
3 days of lessons and trail rides, theory get together and potluck BBQ in a relaxed atmosphere.
$500 for the whole weekend with camping and horse pen.
All breeds and disciplines are welcome.
I am a licensed teacher with Philippe Karls école de légèreté. Light aids, relaxation and understanding are key elements that can benefit every rider.

The August clinic was another inspiring weekend.
I got to teach my 3 horses being ridden by really nice riders, another perspective than riding them myself and great to see that they are ready to adjust and understand different riders.
I am always inspired by these groups of mostly independent and adventurous ladies following their passions and their desire to learn to have better relationships with their horsey partners.
Thank you everyone for joining us this weekend!
Our theory session was on ' Contact, Connection and Communication' which we ended up with guiding each other through patterns, one person being the horse the other the rider, realizing how little it takes to guide each other without talking.

Green horse double bridle version.
Sometimes we have to get inventive.
When I started Julie a year ago she disliked any kind of bit just carrying it in her mouth passively. She would stick her tongue out and twist her head.
I went to a side pull to start her and figured she doesn't need a bit.
A year later of being under saddle and us venturing out and about more I found she can get rather bracey and very ridgid in her neck and body when she gets spooked and tense. The side pull and englisch hackamore are limited in softening bracey horses as they often just brace against the general pressure. To be able to teach her a better posture and softness to bends and head positions and also keeping her mind more involved during distractions I wanted to try a bit again.
She has been just passively carrying the bit in her mouth on rides and we started with some in hand flexions and circles now. The 2 reins let me switch from the hackamore to the bit when she is relaxed and calm for short periods, gradually getting her to learn and accept the bit actions and a soft connection. She also moves her mouth a lot more, chewing and swallowing which makes the rest of her neck and body much looser and softer compared to just the bit less riding.
I like how much more refined the communication can be with a bit versus bitless which can help the more introvert horses becoming more interactive.

Boone, 3 year old QH/Canadian gelding. Getting a light start, 10th ride today and second time trotting under sadlle. I prefer waiting until they are 3.5-4 years old but he needed some more consistent handling and here we are.
Super friendly guy, prime teeny age and goofy at this stage but no doubt will turn into a great riding horse. He will also be looking for his person at some point.
