What’s Dr. Claudia doing to that cat with a pencil?!
Not everything needs fancy tools. This kitty suffered a dislocated jaw, which was diagnosed on physical exam and x-rays. Luckily, the bones of his jaw and temporomandibular joint remained intact with no fractures.
In order to replace the jaw into the correct location, he was sedated and then using a pencil between the back molars, general pressure at the front of the jaw is used to reduce pressure at the back. The pencil is then turned in a counter-clockwise rotation to move the ramus of the jaw back into normal anatomical location.
