Some helpful tips to consider before taking home your budgie:

**Continuing where we left off in how we have raised your bird, is very important**.

Provide a smaller cage for the first 3 months. Do not choose a tall cage. Make sure the main door is large enough to move the budgie out of the cage on your finger or hand. (Small doors are designed to keep finches from escaping), so pick a cage with a good sized opening.

A small cage should have two perches placed opposite from each other. Place one or two toys beside the perches for easy play.

There should be two food dishes. One on the floor of the cage and one hooked onto the side of the cage.
There should be a water bowl. AVOID water dispensers.

If you don’t see your bird drinking any water in the first 24 hours, offer a capful of water or a small dish of water right to the birds beak for him to see it. Most likely he will take a drink.

Visual development is not fully established at this age so letting the bird actually SEE the food and water by showing it to him will help him succeed in his confidence where everything is.

Your bird’s cage is his home. Allow him to settle in by checking up on him to make sure he’s eating and drinking.

It is very tempting to want to hold the bird and play with it, but keep that to a minimum, talk to the bird, offer food from your hand inside the cage.

Let the bird get to know your voice and the room in which he will have his cage so he can start memorizing his surroundings.

Do not place the cage in the middle of the room. Place it against a wall on a table for easy eye contact and away from draught. Cover the cage fully at night (around 6pm to 8 pm). Offer food from your hand around 6 pm as the bird will want to fill up for the night.
Always provide a bowl of seeds inside the cage.

Do NOT offer vegetables at this age no matter what you read online. Birds are known to become ill at this early stage if offered vegetables too early. A good quality seed diet is sufficient.

Please read the info sheet you will be receiving and feel free to ask any questions. We are happy to help.
