🐾💕 Hazel’s Journey — 9 Weeks, 3 Appointments & So Much Progress! 💕

This sweet girl requires a whole lot of extra TLC during her grooming appointments. Even with prescribed oral sedation, grooming is incredibly challenging for Hazel because of her fear and sensitivity to handling.

💕 Appointment 1: We were only able to complete a bath and a very slight facial trim.

💕 Appointment 2: We made some wonderful progress! We completed most of her grooming, but her paws, paw pads and nails were still off-limits, with very limited trimming of her front legs.

💕 Appointment 3 — TODAY! We finally managed to complete her entire groom! 🥹💗

Is her groom absolutely perfect? No. But that’s not what matters.

Hazel is a perfect example of why I believe grooming should never be about achieving perfection at the expense of a dog’s emotional well-being.

She still struggles tremendously, and yes, I even received a little nip today! But I understand that her reactions come from fear, not from being a bad dog. She faces handling challenges at home as well, so this is very much an ongoing journey.

Nine weeks. Three appointments. Small steps. BIG accomplishments! 🐾

I anticipate Hazel may always have her moments of protest, but it’s those tiny moments when she relaxes, allows just a little more handling, or gives me a little extra trust that mean absolutely everything.

Knowing when to stop is just as important as knowing how to groom. Sometimes it takes multiple appointments, plenty of patience, and a whole lot of understanding to reach our goals.

I couldn’t be prouder of Miss Hazel for being so brave today! 💗

At Chelsie’s Bows For Paws Grooming, I truly believe in positive, individualized grooming experiences that respect each dog’s unique needs, comfort levels and limitations.

I feel incredibly blessed to work with dogs like Hazel and to be part of their journey toward building trust and confidence.

💜 Celebrating My Heart Anniversary & My Heart’s Second Birthday! 💜

Today, I wanted to share something a little more personal with all of you. Something that is very near and dear to my heart. ❤️

On October 21, 2010, at just 23 years old, my life changed forever. I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest after developing viral myocarditis.

I was given only a 5% chance of survival, and even if I survived, my family was told I would likely have severe brain damage.

After 100 minutes of CPR, 10 days on life support, multiple surgeries, and having a mechanical heart pump (LVAD) implanted, my future was incredibly uncertain. I was even being prepared for a heart transplant.

But against all odds, my own heart recovered. ❤️ started beating again it’s own after 1 month .

My journey didn’t end there. I had to learn to walk again, rebuild my strength, and regain my independence.

And here I am, 16 years later! 🥹💜

Every October 21st, I celebrate what I lovingly call my heart’s second birthday. It’s an emotional day filled with reflection, gratitude, and appreciation for a life I almost didn’t get to continue living.

I am forever grateful to the incredible medical teams and care I received  at St. Paul’s Hospital and Richmond Hospital, my family, and everyone who played a part in giving me this second chance and getting me though recovery

Because of that second chance, I’ve been able to continue being a mom, daughter, sister, and doing the things I absolutely love including caring for all your precious furbabies. 🐾💜

Some of you have known me for years, while others may have no idea about this part of my life. I wanted to share it because behind every small business is a person with a story, and this is a very special part of mine.

This year, I’ll be spending October 21st and 22nd at Harrison Hot Springs Resort, celebrating 16 years of life since that day and the many miracles that took place.

🐾 The salon will be closed October 21st & 22nd, and I may be a little slower responding to messages while I take this time to celebrate and reflect.

Thank you for your understanding, your continued support, and for allowing me to do what I love every day.

Life is precious, tomorrow is never promised, and sometimes the greatest gift is simply getting another day. ❤️
