My constant companion and ranch partner.

I’ve had Didjeri (my Aussie cattle dog) for almost 1.5 years and I honestly can’t imagine the ranch without him now.
He came from a loving family in the city, and I am so thankful they chose me when their life required he be re-homed.
Since he has been with me he has become my constant companion, ranch guardian, an effective cattle working dog (most of the time 😁) and has taken on the role of protecting me while I am in the pastures, if I need protection or not.
Yesterday I spent 6 hours on the tractor mowing an overgrown, lowland, pasture. The entire time Didjeri was either running beside the tractor or he was on a ridge nearby keeping an eye on me. Today I was riding up to the North pasture to do a herd check and checking some fence lines. True to form he was at my side the entire time.
I saw something the other day that said your dog will be your best friend for part of your life, you will be your dogs best friend for their entire life… if you see me around you can be sure Didjeri is not far away

How much can you do with a milkshake in your hand?

The plan for this afternoon was to round up the cattle into the arena, sort out the bull and put him into the bull pen, then drive the rest of the herd to the north pasture.

I had left the gate to the arena open and about 1/3 of the herd walked in, Including the bull (Roscoe). We didn’t even have horses caught and were busy drinking our milkshakes, so why not do both… milkshake in hand and on foot, we cut out the bull, and moved him to the pen.

Then we caught some horses to move everyone else to the north. While the Ranch manager went to open the gate, Didjeri and I started moving the herd. In reality Didjeri dod 80% of the work, I gave some commands and tried to keep up. It was done so quickly I didn’t even get a chance to take any pictures of the move.

Some days this could have taken all day to do and other days you are finished before your milkshake melts.🤠
