Not sure if I’ll ever have the opportunity to work on an older banded bird than this one.

This Black Scoter was banded as an adult in 2006 and was harvested on Kodiak Island, Alaska. Biologists estimate it was hatched in 2003 or earlier, making it at least 21 years old at the time of harvest.

Even more impressive, this bird now holds the longevity record for Black Scoters, surpassing the previous record of 14 years and 6 months.

It’s incredible to think about the miles traveled, migrations completed, and seasons survived by this bird over more than two decades. A true once in a lifetime waterfowl specimen. -

One of the most underrated ducks, a stud banded drake gadwall all the way from Louisiana, harvested here in Ontario πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ¦†. Moments like this are what make waterfowling so special you never know the story behind the bird dropping into the spread.

Even more rewarding being able to preserve memories like this through taxidermy, and this season was one to remember after taking 1st Place in Masters Division at the Canadian Taxidermy Competition. Extremely grateful for everyone following along and supporting the journey.-

Ever have a hunt go from dead quiet to unforgettable in a matter of seconds? Two banded greenheads dropping into the decoy spread will do that every time. One good swing can turn the whole day around. Sad to see these leave the shop but grateful to put them together πŸ‘ŒπŸ€› -

This was my first time entering a bird in flight in the Masters Division, and I’m proud to say it earned Best of Class at both the Canadian and Quebec shows. I hope you guys enjoy this piece as much as I do there’s a lot of time and effort behind it. It makes it even more special knowing I was able to harvest the bird myself. πŸ‘Œ -
