Tick Awareness Month – Protect Pets & People

June is Tick Awareness Month, and ticks are active across Atlantic Canada — even in backyards and urban trails.

Beyond daily checks and preventatives, here are a few extra ways to reduce risk:
• Avoid tall grass, wooded edges, and leaf litter when possible
• Keep lawns trimmed and remove yard debris
• Use tick prevention consistently — not just in peak season
• Watch for signs of tick-borne illness (lethargy, fever, limping, loss of appetite)
• Check yourself and children after outdoor activities

If you find a tick, remove it with fine-tipped tweezers and monitor your pet closely.

Your RVT can help you choose the best prevention plan for your pet and lifestyle.
